I have a question about the year of my MGB. The door tag says "Manufactured in 10/79". It is titled as a 1980 MGB. Does anyone know why it is tagged 1979 and titled 1980?? Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this.

A lot of cars that are made after September are tagged as the following model year. Look at all the cars you can buy right now that are "2006" models. It seems the car manufacturers have always rushed the new model year.
If you want to find out something more specifically about your MGB, you can get a Heritage certificate here:

Production of 1980 model year MGB's started in June 1979 for 49 state cars. California cars remained 79's until the end of the calander year. Beginning model year production a few months early is a common practice by the automotive industry. How can you tell? The plate in the door jamb and labels underthe hood should tell you that the vehicle complies with all requirements for 1980 model years cars or similar wording. The serial numbers for 1980 started at 501001. Your vin should look something like this for the first 8 digits
GVVDJ2AG for a 49 state car. The second V indicates a North American Federal (49 state) roadster. California cars would have a Z. The 7th. digit A= model year 1980. I hope I have translated the data correctly. I looked in the Identification section of the Original MGB by Clausager for reference.
