5sfe w/ forged internals vs 3sgte block

which would be better if you wanted to turbo? i know the 3sgte block is stronger than 5sfe, but with forged internals wouldnt the 5sfe be just as strong but it would have larger displacemet.

sort of, it all depends on what you mean by "forged internals" if your trying to say they both have the same parts (both have, lets say hks storker kits or both have cp pistons and eagle rods) then i guess you could make a comparison, but otherwise they really are 2 completely diffrent blocks, even though they are both s series.

put it this way, stock, 3sgte is better BY FAR

pistons/rods-3sgte cast pistons and cast rods, but they can handle more boost becuase the metal (alluminum alloy) they were made from as opposed to the 5sfe pistons and rods

cranks- heres the whole reason why the 3sgte blcok is better, it has a better oil delevery system, has the ability to revv higher, is ALOT stonger than the 5sfe crank, and has an 8-bolt flywheel pattern as opposed the the 5sfe 6 bolt pattern(8 bolt is pretty much the bare minimum for racing, 6 bolt is used to save money but cant handle as much stress)

block- the water jackets in the 3sgte blocks are larger, as well as the blcok is made of iorn, i hear all the time "why dont thye make all blocks alluminum becuase its lighter"
simple, cost and the fact of cooling
aluminum blocks NEED to be run at a lower temperature to be effective, iorn blocks can withstand alot more heat, i.e. if an all aluminum block heats up to much, it will warp very easily.


now if your trying to say both of them FULLY built, i would say 5s block, if you can replace the carnk to withstand higher revvs and get forged pistons and rods, then id say that. you must rememebr theres no replacment for displacment, thoertically if they both have (near) the same interals, oviously the 5s block will be better becuase of the displacment

now if I had to build both, id leave the stroke the same on the 3sgte, but id increase the bore to 82mm, forged pistons and rods, as well as get a crank that is very light, and can handle a high amount of revvs

with a 5sfe, i would DE-stroke it down to 2.0 or 1.9 liters (im more partial to high revving responsive engines) and get the forged stuff as well as the light crank w/ a 8 bolt flywheel pattern and be able to use 3sgte flywheels

the 5s block would be better if you had assloads of cash IMO becuase the ability to destorke it and make it a stoker engine, a
5s block stroked w a G head=pure sex

which one has the better heads? i would assume the g but you said something about more torque with the f.

theres a tradeoff, most people will tell you the F head flows as good as a tub will float and will never make any real power....that is just hott air, thats like saying a D series on a honda will never make alot of power

first off the valve angles are diffrent, resulting in a diffrent flow (22.3 and 50 degree) not to mention the G head has side flowing intake ports witch is not as ......ideal as the F heads narrow steep angled ports

You must also fastoer in most G heads come with intake manifolds with large runners and large ports, F heads come with small consistent bens and small ports. The best example i can think is take the smallport 4age head, and take the bigports 4age head, the smallport will (and easilyer) make more power up till about 200WHP, after that the bidport will make more power ealilyer...the 4age small port is pretty much (IMO) alot like the F head, let me rephrase, alot of the F head technology i think is inspired by the small port because it made alot of power and had great gas mieleage for such a little motor.

not only the angle, and ports you must look at, but also the squish area of each head. depending on what g head your using (all are a little diffrent) they all have a relativly race inspired squish area of the head, they are ALL pretty much built much like the formula atlantic 4age head, the F head uses a more flat shaped area instead of domed like the G head.

theres (again) really no way to completely compare the 2, they are truely 2 diffrent heads implimenting 2 diffrent technologys

the only way to really say anything about them is in stock form, the G head surpasses the head in performance, but with mild headwork and opening up of the ports, as well as a valve job the f head can be turned into a very agressive head

example : samw block for both engine, but one has a f head one has a G head....lets say the G head makes 150 WHP and 135 lbs...the f head would make approximatly 140 WHP and 155 ft lbs of tourqe
its been said the F head makes aproxx 15% less Hp than the G head but %15+ more tourqe

the best example of this was a guy took a high comp 4age engine, makes 140 hp at crank and 130 tq he put it into his corlla with an f head and ended up with 130 hp and 145 ft lbs

also the statment that the g head has the ability to revv higher is also false, if you werent aware the F head and g head of the 4afe and 4age, and 5sfe and 3sgte cna share (some) parts...valves, valvesprings, lifters...etc...i myself am using 4age hsk valvesprings in my F head with shimless buckets made for a 4age

oh no, if your getting that impression no of course not, otherwise they would have put one on the 3sgte :)

im just stating that the f head is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out ot be, its like the girl ur friends hate and say shes FUCKING SOOO UGLY yet she aint that bad, in fact shes boneable ....lol

im just saying an F head can be made to perform well just like pretty much any head could be made to do, just alot of poeple assume it flows like shit (sort of does stock) and will never be made int o a good head...

in all honesty the most Hp ive ever seen out of an F head was 300WHP but that was on a turbo 4afe
