Found an EXCELLENT engine cleaner ...

It's called 14,110 feet :grinyes: !

Equating to 13 miles of 2nd gear at 3K rpm's, followed by 1 1/2 miles of L-gear and 4-4,500 rpm's - with literal drop-offs :uhoh: on either side and hair raising grades :eek7: .

Surely does cleans up those lifters REAL well, and gives those 3.2L's a good workout.

Man, that was a fun trip - Pike's Peak, taking you up above timberline - it's a sight to see. It's very breathtaking - in more ways then one.

However, I don't recommend it for the faint of heart, or one that thinks there cooling system is not up to par. It's funny, I was the only truck up there not having to pop the hood - truck ran good and cool.

And I'm serious, that must've helped with something - as there is NO ticking today, I mean ziltch!

Cool. That's when all the maintenance pays off!

hehe, that sounds fun. speaking of cooling, did you upgrade anything? would you recommentd a new/ larger radiator and new hoses before going? what about air filter? did the truck breath right up there?

would a stock rodeo/passport make it?

also, i'd think an oil change and new filter might be in the works after a trip like that.

No upgrades on this truck, she's all stock - with the exception of slightly bigger tires.

Radiator is original, hoses get replaced every 2-3yrs along with cooling flush every year.

I change my air filter every 6-9k miles.

The oil/filter in the truck only have 800 miles, I'm not too concerned about the work-out on the oil, and I'm not going to change it for another 2-3K miles. I have Rotella 5w-40 diesel/gas synthetic engine oil and hopefully it's doing a good job. :uhoh:

This truck has had more oil changes in the last 6-months to last it a life time! :cwm27:

And call me weird, but I swear this truck LOVES high altitude - it sounds strange I know, but it breathes real good. I've never doubted it.

I'd definitely do Pikes Peak if you never have - I've lived in Colorado my whole life, it's funny how I never made it up there before now.

nope. i live in a flat land called illinois. but i'm willing to take a trip.

here, there aren't many hills or mountains to play in, so we just wait for a good rain fall and run through the muddy fields.

I agree whole heartedly. these truck seem to be built just for high altitudes. They run 50% better above 3000 ft and from what you said 100% better at 14k ft

It's funny, I bought this truck in Las Vegas, NV - never thinking I'd be bringing it back to Colorado (home state) - so I never gave any part of it a 2nd thought.

Sucker pinged like MAD the whole first 75K miles of living in Vegas. Dealership tried everything, even switching to higher octane did nothing.

Bout gave up on trying to get rid of the ping - then came the trip back to Denver, and about half way thru Utah, on the same tank of gas from a Vegas fill-up, the pinging stopped. No warning, no nothing - just stopped pinging.

Hasn't pinged since moving back home about 70-some thousand miles ago.

Go figure!

being in the navy I move often and when My wife bought the rodeo in san diego it had about 20k and there was no knocking. at 62k we moved to washington state and it started knocking but like most didn't happen all the time but got worse. but we notice every time we got up in the mountains the knock quiet out and completely stopped when we got to idaho. It is just wierd :screwy: but thats what always happens and we have made the trip 4 times it never seems to fail.
The last time we made the trip I drove the truck hard to try and get a knock,ping, something......nothin. All I got was me going to the gas station sooner.
