Axle seals?

I apologize for posting in another transmission thread where I thought I had the same problem. I just bought a '96 ES knowing that it had a transmission fluid leak somewhere. After the 200 mile trip to get it back home, I parked in the garage, which filled with smoke since all of the exhaust was coated in fluid. I cleaned off everything around the trans pan, brackets, etc, then let it run for a while in the garage. I put it through all of the gears and moved it forward and back a little. No drips appeared. I just crawled under it again to look at everywhere that had fluid and figured out that it's my axles throwing the fluid everywhere (including the exhaust). It looks to be coming out of the seals.

Go easy on me since I'm a Chevrolet 454SS truck guy (owned 4), and I just bought the ES to have something decent for back and forth to work. I've never worked on a FWD car before.

How hard is it to replace the seals and would a Haynes manual be a good guide? Thanks.
