i have a 99 ECSB 5.3 4x4 what kind of mileage should i be getting??

My 99 w/5.3 gets around 13 to 14 MPG, I guess it all depends on what you do or dont have done to your truck. Tires, performance parts, bed covers, everything has some kind of affect on mileage, do you live somewhere that has a lot of hills or stop and go traffic. My mileage went to shit when i moved to Hawaii, driving up and down mountains and stop and go all the time. when i lived in Virginia i was getting almost 19 to 20 and a little better on the HWY.

if its all highway i get around 20 and my normal driving between highway and city i get 16-18. my truck is a 02 5.3 2wd

I get 19-20 highway, typically running 70 mph. RCLB 3.73 5.3. Never done a sample with around-town driving, mainly cos im afraid of what it might turn out to be =). In my '91 RCSB 5.7, I got 11 around town =).

well i get about 12 on the highway doing 70....what could go bad to make it that bad...

The first thing to do is check what you got:
How's the air filter?
How's the fuel filter?
How are the spark plugs?
How are the fuel injectors?

That is a checklist i just went thru myself. I replaced everything but the injectors, and I put some B-12 ChemTool in the tank to clean those. I'll have to get back to everyone about how well it does now

That's another good point... off road (read: lifted) trucks are not known for their gas mileage

well only reason i said anything, and again, i'm not trying to start a debate... i just know the basics of gearing. stock trucks aren't typically geared well enough to accomodate bigger tires... but when ya do the truck may not feel any different seat of the pants but you'll notice it in your fuel budget.

if you have the means, IMHO, look into re-gearing it... if you plan to keep the truck for awhile it might be a good investment, and you may gain some pep back if you lost any.

One easy fix is to drop the tailgate or cover the bed. I picked up 2mpg after installing a cap.

I get about 7 in town...10 on the highway. :lol:
