it's been a while since i've posted, but this one i just gotta post it, well anyways, i dont race a lot of american muscle cars nor do i come across them very often, so i wasn't sure how this american muscle would act upon my slow import, anyways, the story, i came across this muscle car that looked very strange, it had two mufflers, yes, those mufflers you see on stock cars, not the fancy dual muffers you see on sportier cars but mufflers, not muffler tips, so i was thinking "wtf", it passed me pretty quick on the right side, his window was a little down and i saw an LCD screen of some sort and some gauges, i heard no turbo or a supercharge whine, so i'm thinking it must be some other sort of pressure or oil gauge, anyways, he looked pretty young with a bandana, so i'm like :) mind you, i dont mess with old folks, right away, i followed his tail, we came to a stop light and he reved at me, yep, definitely no t/c or s/c, so he must have some vacuum gauges or something, anyways, i revved back, letting him know i'm gonna go when the light turns green, well, light turns green and i punch it, my car gets off the line pretty quick (2300 lbs.) i get a couple car lengths ahead of him and wasn't sure if he took off or not, so i slowed down and see whatsup, i let him get a couple lengths ahead of me and slowly crept on him, when i got to his bumper he took off, ok, now he wants to race but didn't want to at the line? hmmm...anyways, i gave him a thumps up when i left the main street and he did a little rev back

so, my main concern about american muscle cars, they dont like racing at the line or something? only highway racing? hmmmm...

Most american cars do better from a stop.

But, depends on what type of car it was... did you see what brand of 'american muscle' it was?

You make it sound like you have to have forced induction to go fast..

most american muscle cars are built naturally aspirated with v8's.

Even so, you wont always hear a turbo or a supercharger.. especially over the roar of something like a v8..

Well i don't know what the guys problem was.. Maybe he didn't launch good..

BUT, just cause it's an American Muscle car..don't mean it's fast as sh*t. Hell you can have a NA big block chevy nova w/slicks get beat buy a smaller engined car with more HP..

Sometimes it sound dumb.."American Muscle".. I use to get so many customers at autozone that thought just cause they dropped a worked 350 into there monte..it would eat everything. I love american cars, #1 for me...but you get sick of them after a while.

BTW, if your car is 2300lbs...and a FWD, i seriously think youd have some bad wheelspin.

WOW seriously that was SO uncalled for... Ricer If you are still alive...What "american muscle" was it?

PWRDbyUNCLEbens

Rice(r) seems to be a pretty good member. He's just falling into he habit of making assumptions based on one event.

I had a friend with a semi built 350 cubic inch "american muscle" powerplant in his 72 skylark run slower times then my pretty much stock sentra (15.8 @89mph), and similiar 60ft times. A change in gears however netted him a 14.2 @ 98mph.

There are several factors in off the line acceleration one of which is very important, and thats gearing. It doesnt matter wether if it has a v8 or a 4 cylinder, gearing will change any cars accelertion characteristics. Of course traction is important too, but the guy you raced could have lacked either one... resulting in him not wanting to race from a stop.
