Removing Side Moldings??

Help! Does anyone know how to remove the side moldings? I'm tired that "black stripe" on the side of my car. And i'm too broke right now to get it painted.

most automotive shops will carry specific colors, but remember to get the code off your door jamb before you go in and just guess at it.

I know you can order some spray cans at www.duplicolor.com. I would, but I'm too broke to do so and will be for some time.

I'm not positive on this, but aren't there some kind of screws or clips that hold the modlings in? You may get rid of the black stripe, but you added about 10 holes in the side of your car :bloated:

im never gonna remove mine, has saved me from gettin my doors bashed in so many times
one time this ditzy ass girl at my school opened her door into the side of my car right in front of me :rolleyes: .... then she goes, oh oops, is your car ok? lol, thank god for the sidemolding or i wouldve felt like an ass making her pay for it.

Why would you have felt bad?
Buy a CX they dont come with side mouldings :D

This would be best explained in a Helm's service manual...
Anyway...
To remove the side moldings, you have to un-do the clips fron the other side. To do that, you have to remove the interior panels.
The easier route would be to paint the moldings while they are on the car as they are. Just tape/cover off the appropriate areas.

I repainted my rear bumper last summer and it was the first time I had ever painted, and you could never tell a "rookie" painted it, unless you get within 2 or 3 inches tops from it. And when you are 2 or 3 inches away its only in certain areas. Aslong as you take your time and do it right, you will be happy with them.

anyways yo remove the mouldings you must first take the door panels off and expose the area behind the moulding.. there are little plastic clips holding it which you can squeeze to pop out the moulding... the panels in the rear seats must be taken out too for the pieces on the rear panels (may need to remove the whole rear deck to get the panels out) lastly the panels near the firewall need to be removed... to pop out this little front pieces... good luck, and paint it well!

Also take your time, and make sure the surface is perfect, if you can just barely see a bump or scratch, it will show when you paint it. I mean it has to be TINY for just the paint to "fill" it. I would recommend going to a paint shop near you and have it matched. Most of the time the dupli-color cans are fine, but I've had one bad one. Also make sure to use a light primer! It makes a world of a difference. In the beginning(not when I painted my front end) I painted my rear trunk, by myself with just a duplic color match can, and I went to my local ace hardware and I got a darkish blueish gray primer... it looked like this blueish/gray :coolguy: and I never thought anything of it. Well After I had painted it it was a little darker than the rest of my car, and I did "buff" it out a little but didnt help much. Though when I went to go paint my front end I talked to the guy at the paint shop and he told me everything I needed and he gave me a tanish, champaigne(spellling?) primer. And that match beautifully, other than if you really stare hard at it you can tell that the hood and bumper are a little more "new" and I haven't even fully polished it out.
Oh yeah....Make sure that the sanding is "perfect" because whatever you can see a little bit before, you will easily see after painting... hehehe just wanted to stress that :D

Nandato?! Oh well I guess I will just leave them on for now. Putting back on the interior door panels are not cool. Mine are not on correctly right now from when I tried to fix my window.
