1965 Beetle 6Volt Blows fuse

Hello!

We're trying to troubleshoot a 1965 beetle, with the 6 volt system. It often blows the fuse for left rear light, left blinkers, and left "parking lights" (light knob pulled one step) ,Especially when it is cold. By some strange reason this seems to happen when changing gear to 2:nd.'(!!??) The cabling behind the dashboard looks ok, but we need some help where to start troubleshooting this. In what way could the gearshift cause a blown fuse?

Secondly, what is the correct procedure to adjust headlight height on the 1200 beetle? Now they are set way too high.

Appreciate any suggestions and help on both subject matters :)

I wouldn't suspect it's directly related to the shifter, more likely the accel/decelleration at the shift lets the short make contact. Have you inspected the connector at the taillight? Somewhere the wire is grounding. As for the headlight, you would remove the outer glass lens & attach the headlight aimer to the actual bulb. There are aiming systems that have a chart on a wall or mount in front of the car, but the lens has to come off anyway to make any adjustments.
