questions about SPRAY

i've been researching different nitrous systems cuz i'm interested in getting sprayed :evillol: . and of course i've got a few questions...

i noticed that the systems i'm looking at either come tps(throttle position sensor) activated, while others are microswitch activated... what are the differences? i'm guessing the microswitch is just button activated... but the other is tps activated? so does that mean everytime you put down a certain percent throttle it sprays? cuz i don't wanna be spraying everytime i punch it...

what exactly is an arming switch? my first guess is taht it just preps the system, or activates it, but doesn't actually let it go...

what are the benefits of things like bottle warmers and nitrous purges? is it imperative that i have them? or is it just a beneficial part?

what company would you guys recommend? NOS, ZEX, or Nitrous Express? or is there really that much of a difference?

what would be the advantages or disadvantages to having the MAF housing nitrous discharges or the throttle body spacer?

the last one i can think about right now... prolly the most important one... how much? how much can i spray my stock block lt1? all the rotating assembly is factory nothing forged...

I believe they all have those arming switches. + the TPS will activate the nitrous itself depending on the the trothel angle (WOT) or the botton manually.

Why do you want it? Racing? You might pull a piston or blow a head gasket like that pretty soon.

All companes have same NO it them. The only difference is betwen dry and wet systems.

Also I believe they have different nozels to calibrate the shot. I dont know if theres a kit to tune it.

ok first off let me tell u all the things u can get everyone dont get...bottle warmers...u should but ive seen folks go without, i would get it, purge...just think, when u are not useing your nitrous water settles in your lines and u dont wanna go shooting that through your damn car so the purge clears your line, get it. once again i seen fast jobs and people left them off. bottle opener, not a need but its easy when u think about having to go in the trunk and turn the bottle on (opening it) problem is now u have to depend on a mechanical devise opening and closing your bottle all the way...damn that i open my own bottle. its good to have for that when u roll up on a guy at the light and u dont wanna have to reach behind u and unscrew it giving yourself away that u have it.ok now lets go talk about how u can use it. some guys have that fast a furious crap u turn on the system (arming it) then have to press a button to use it. problem with that is u have to know when to spray and when not to, some guys spray through all the gears and i myself dont think thats smart, some people even spray out of the hole. like i said u have to know what the hell u are doing to do that because if u mess up u break your car. most of the guys i know and myself use a msd window switch. u put pills in the unite and after u arm the system it knows when to spray and when not to by your rpm's. its all pre-set, i tell everyone i know to use that system because its safe and it gives u extra security that u will be able to run another pass. let the computer do that one it works! oh and back to the warmer...the name of the game is to build pressure so warming the bottle does that for u.as for brands, they all do the same, but some systems have more upgradeable parts than others. NOS is the shit! i use it many other guys use it, but all the other brands work just as well but NOS is great! now price, a good kit shoul run u from 600-800 bucks. some go as high as 1200. bottle warmers are like from 100-250, u can get them on ebay for cheap, u need a nitrous gauge and a pressure gauge and the gauge holder. they cost about 200 bucks each and the holder is like 250. im drunk as hell because i just got back from the club so if i 4got anything ill post it later on

what's the difference between wet and dry shots anyway? does anyone know how much i could reliably spray my lt1?

philly, where can i find that msd window switch? is it expensive? and what do i need a pressure gauge for? does it just let me know how much is left?

where do you get nitrous from anyway? and do those kits come w/ enough plumbing to mount the bottle in my spare tire well? cuz that's where i wanna put it and i know alot of other guys put it there, but i don't know if i would have to buy more line...

do kits usually come w/ nitrous purge? or seperate? are they expensive? and where should i mount it?

sorry i got so many questions, i just like knowing everything i can about something before i jump into it...

hey philly, i also forgot to ask... what type of delivery method do you have? and what would u recommend? i've been looking at the MAF housing and throttle body spacer... not sure which one would be better, NOS uses the throttle body spacer, and NX uses the MAF housing...

ok heres the hook up....dry kits spray n2o into the air setup. the pcm tells the system to add more fuel to keep up with the air. wet kits use 1-2 nozzles that spray both n2o and fuel into the intake system. then u have direct port systems that use one nozzle in each of the 8 intake runners spraying both n2o and fuel ( this is the set up u see when folks try an hide and tuck away the n2o cylenders) they are real small but a dead giveaway fo those u care about hiding what u have. and a efi setup that goes in between your injectors and the intake and it sprays both. my new set up will be direct port..wet. the one thing i didnt get into was how your ejectors are effected. this is why i go wet over dry..no before i get into this remember, im not the expert, i may have some things right, but some of this info might need to be looked into...wet kits have there own supply source so the dont use your injectors...this is good because it does not wear out your engine and u dont have to mess with the injecters at all. dry kits use the cars system and that may call for upgrades in your fuel delivery system and it wears the injecters over time. this was explained to me verry deeply 2 years ago and thats why i choose wet over dry. wet shots can use higher shots than a dry kit..i do know that...u wont see a 250 dry shot...at least not on anything we all would race in on the streets...but i was always told dry kits were used for smaller shots if u wanted to use that set up. now the rule of thumb is 20 shots for every cylender. so u can go 160 no problem on a decent engine... most folks without a built up bottom end go 75 or 100 shot. now thats a old school way of figuring what u could do...my 3800 when stock..120 shot..now 200 and a back up 100. thats what u can do on a built engine with no problem...u should be good with a 150 or even a 120 shot as well. and the msd window switch...now being from tampa u should know i can get u what u need for your car from rev, so we can order u one, they dont cost much at all and its a fool proof setup...yes i said fool. because spraying through your gears is just crazy...sorry but it is. if u want to put your bottle in the spare tire space then u will need a remote bottle opener. the kit has everything u need but u do have to get your own purge in some kits...one of the NOS kits i will check which one has it already. and most tracks do refills on location, and u will have to call around performance shops to see who out that way does bottle refills..once again at rev we do that as well. oh and that pressure gauge is important. u need to know what the pressure is in that bottle at all times..blow back and low pressure bottles arent a good thing. anyways if u want to know anymore pm me ill hook u up, and anything i told u i wasnt 100% on i will check for u, i already posted a thread in our forum to the techs to get everything u need to know ill sent it 2 u when i get it. remember i use it and i know alot of basics, but im not a tech at all or an expert... i know alot about the system but before i had it i didnt know shit about it at all so this is all the things the guys at the shop explained to me while they hooked me up so i didnt have something and was clueless of how it worked. anything u need pm me ill get u prices and maybe in the future u would like to join up with our club u are from here and we do have memebers all over the globe...and remember know animals were hurt in this long ass post and the term nos was always used in referring to the brand and not used in calling it n2o. thank u all lol

both types you should get an upgrade in the tank pump. the wet kits are really dependent on it. to sum it up in my words:

dry shots JUST nitrous through the MAF sensor before the tb and the computer tries to adjust by adding fuel. this taxes most importantly the fuel injectors. the fuel injectors must make up the difference.

in a wet kit there are solenoids that control both nitrous and fuel (tapped from the fuel rails) and mixes with nozzles both nitrous and fuel AFTER the MAF (cant shoot fuel into the maf or it will be destoyed). dont need bigger injectors in the wet kit since they arent taxed anymore than a regular motor.
my boy john told me this.....he's a pro with this stuff, i have one more

philly rs
09-11-2005, 05:41 PM
To sum it up simply:A wet kit supplies it's own fuel enrichment, and the dry uses the maf and 02 sensors to add the right amount of fuel through the existing injectors.Still new to the whole computer engine thingy but, pretty sure the dry kits usually need a booster fuel pump,or tank pump upgrade. This may not be true for all systems
and this came from my boy randy. pretty much how i tried to explain it but they know more than i so i wanted them to clear it up....thats why guys like them help me with what i do to my car because they know alot abot f-bodies this is all they do

drvngstorm05

i shoulda hooked up w/ the rev guys while i was there... man i sure coulda benefited from that... i have 30lb injectors and a 255lph fuel pump... my fuel system is more than capable to compensate for the n2o, and if the maf tells the computer to add more fuel, then i should be able to run a dry shot... my engine only has about 66,000 miles on it, so i was thinking i'd be safe with a 150 shot judging on what you said...

but thinking about wet kits... how hard is it to tap into the fuel rail? do you actually drill a hole in it?

do you know some guys that have used those injector spacers? do those tap into the fuel rail? or do they somehow take more fuel from the injector?

i appreciate u doin all this for me... post a link to that thread that u posted to those guys, i'd love to learn some more bout the subject...

Meh, that's peanuts. :p

But the content sure was great. Philly don't be self-consious about long(er) posts, especially on an in-depth subject. If the person is really interested they'll read it all, as we did.

hey im glad it helped u guys, because like i said before i joined up with this club i didnt know crap, i would have hooked that bottle to my eclipse without knowing what i was doing back in the day. but now i know what the deal is and my maro is always ran safe. and yes my car will be done by time u get home, im sure we can hit gandy bridge up on a late night...that will be the ish! we will do that and while u are home ill hook u up with the guys in the club, if u want to join ill help get u started. it would be cool to see that car in person. so thats whats up.

yes a movie will be made... my camera sucks for fast movment tho... so maybe philly or one of his buddies from rev can film it for us...

i'm not sure if i'll be sprayed by then... i don't have the funds for it right now (w/ school and all) but i am savin up... i will be sprayed, just not sure when haha. then again i may need it to be able to run w/ philly...

i asked these earlier, just wondering if you could answer... how hard is it to tap into the fuel rail? do you actually drill a hole in it?

do you know some guys that have used those injector spacers? do those tap into the fuel rail? or do they somehow take more fuel from the injector?

u customize the fuel rail i dont think u drill it, ill hook my first set up next week, and i do know guys with the spacer, and dont worry about spray i dont think ill be spraying her till after the first year so it will be motor for motor

drvngstorm05
09-12-2005, 07:23 PM
motor for motor, that will definately be a good run... what are u gonna have done to the ls1 before u put it in?

philly rs
09-12-2005, 07:34 PM
it will have the forged internals long tube headers, springs, rods, hellt he entire thing will be rebuilt and it only has 20,000 miles on it lol. it should be a 450 or a bit more hp engine when its done before the spray

Rally Sport
09-12-2005, 07:50 PM
450? good god! Sorry to say but :sadwavey: later Dave..

we'll see when the day comes... i've had alot of people tell me i'm pushin somewhere between 400-425... maybe i can get revextreme to dyno my car when i'm there too... don't count the lt1 out just yet :smokin: philly your car had a t5 right? are u gonna swap in a t56 or an auto? hopefully t56... are u just rebuilding it? or is there any boring and stroking goin on?

philly rs
09-12-2005, 10:20 PM
its getting that 6speed i just couldnt do her like that and go auto, and u should bring your car over and let her lay it down on the dyno, that sucks because next weekend we are having dyno day again, so it will be cheap as hell for 3 runs. last time guys brought out all kinds of cars, thats when that 69 camaro about jumped off the damn dyno. that bitch layed down over 1100hp on spray. but u should dyno her so u know for sure what u got going on there. right now im still trying to find a tranny, im gonna build it a little once i find it, i want that damn spec 5 clutch, i dont want to play around with my tranny, i need that bitch to hook and not break. and i didnt bother sending the engine out to the shop for a bore but ive been fooling with the thought over the last week. but i may not bother. but she will be moded out u best beleave. and the reason my n2o may not be hooked up by then is i now want to re-do the kit. i found some gauges that were tight as hell, they change color, and they have a dman remote control with them, they can read back settings and do all kinds of stuff, but they are pricy, i gotta find out what brand they are u guys have to go to the site and see them demo's. anyways im gonna re do the system so i may need a bit more time to get that all together.

drvngstorm05
09-12-2005, 10:39 PM
lets hope for my sake u aren't sprayed by the time i get there haha... i wish i was still there to take advantage of the dyno day... but i'm about 17hrs or so away now... when x-mas comes however you can bet your ass that we're gonna meet up and run... i just want a friendly run w/ a good guy like yourself, doesn't really matter to me wether or not i win, racing is just fun period (although winning is nice lol). after our run, we'll see if we can take down a bunch of imports and stangs :evillol:

i've got a couple more mods that will most likely be on there by the time i get there... i'll hopefully have a bigger TB and 3.73 gears by x-mas but we shall see...
