Just bought an 82 rabbit pickup caddy diesel and have my brother doing most of the work while I assist. I didn't pay too much attention when we tore the rear drum apart. Distracted by miscellaneous problems. I should've taken a picture before we tore 'em down.

Putting in new bearing and have new cylinders already and seem to have some defective shoes as the emergency/parking brake crossbar on the top doesn't fit right on one side.

Anyway, I'd like to see a picture of where some the springs should go with the new hardware kit and where the little metal piece on each side goes that looks like a small metal necktie. It has a small hole in one side and raised dot on the bottom of the "tie".

Is this info in the Haynes gas VW books? I'm assuming the brake setup is the same though sometimes the needed detail is missing. I can't find what I need on Alldata. Only mention the gas books since I am trying to get this done this weekend and ordering a diesel book will take a while.

A picture or diagram would be best though. I may see if the VW dealership in the neighboring town has weekend shop hours.

Couldn't find assembly online but stumbled on idea to check library catalog online. Local library showed they had rabbit VW books. They didn't have the rabbit one when I got there but they had a late 80's Fox book which had the same setup in the drum. Used that for the brake work.

But a rubber boot on the new cylinder tore during assembly and trying to get it to fold correctly. It got caught between some metal pieces when the piston was fully extended.

Anyone have a boot? I'll have to check if I can order just that.
