no fire and no fuel !!!!!

I have recently purchased a 97 grand am se with the 2.4liter engine. initially the car had a bad fuel pump, so I replaced it. pulled the injectors and cleaned them, cleaned the fuel rail and purged and replaced the system ran like a champ for 2 days. my gf drove to the store turned the car off and came out of the store and it wouldnt start. turns over fine but the fuel pump and the ignition are not activating when you turn the switch to the on position. could this be the ignition switch or perhaps the ignition module???

Welcome firepeanut3561. Hav you checked the fuses? how about the relays? two important things that get overlooked. THe ignition switch and the Module could be bad, hav you had the module tested? I would double check all your connections too. I'll PM you a link . XI

Did the security light come on? If so that may be your problem. The passlock system will shut down both the fuel and the ignition. If the light did not come illuminate then the problem could be with the fuel pump relay or the crank position sensor. Since you lost both I would put my money on the passlock system.

If it's the passlock system like GTP dad said; then it might be worth a shot to reset the security system. It aint gonna hurt anything -worth a shot. Here's how to do it:

Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.

Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated.

Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)

Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 11 minutes.

Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds.

Repeat #1 - #5 for 3 cycles.
On 4th attempt, car should start.

NOTE : Since this is a fairly long procedure, limit all electrical sources, such as disconnecting headlights, to prevent discharge of battery.

NOTE 2 : It is SAFE to wait LONGER than the allotted time, but it is not safe to wait less time. I.e. 12 minutes instead of 11 minutes should be safe; however, waiting 10 minutes instead of 11 minutes is not safe.

Properly executed, this procedure should take approximately 35 minutes to complete

Thanks to all of you . I replaced the ignition switch box in the steering column and it crank like a champ, un fortunately, later the same night, she burned to the ground due to a fire in the engine compartment. easy come easy go.

That sucks! How did it catch fire? Was it the gas from the fuel rails you purged earlier?
