trans ticking sound

i just bought my 1998 grand prix gtp about 1 month ago. about 1 week after i bought it. it started to make this ticking noise. when i put my head up in the engine bay area i dont hear it. but when i kneel down next to the front left tire. its really loud. i can slightly hear it when im inside the car so i can say that i only hear it when its in park. when i shift into any gear including neutral, i no longer hear it. my dad told me that im being paranoid over something small and shouldnt worry about it. but i fo one have had trans problems in the past and dont want to go through with it again.

i got my tranny fluid changed about 1 week ago and it went away. the sound was gone. i decided to woop a new cougar today and the sound came back now this time louder. i was thinking it was maybe a loose torque converter bolt but it sounds to high pitched for that. if anyone knows anything about this paticular issue lemmi know.

also is a EGR position sensor bad to have out. i put 93 octane with a can of octane booster in my car(NOT GOOD i know) and now the service engine son light came on i stopped at autozone and they plugged in the comp. into my diagnostic connector and came up with a EGR issue being the fuel was at 94+ octane i assume i just fried the sensor not the actual valve any help there would be great too.

thanks guys

sounds like a possible cracked flywheel.

A common problem on '97 - '99 GTPs is the flex plate in which the torque convertor bolts to. Plus I would not rule out loose bolts.
