hi everyone... i drive a 95 JDM corolla. it's been our family car for almost 5 years now. it has quite a number of problems, and since i would love to work them out (or at least try to do so) myself, i am gathering knowledge as much as i can.
the car has a 4-EFE 1331 CC engine, 3 spd auto. it gets horrible milage... about 12 mpg! and it has an Economy head! and when i put it into D, it lurches when it engages. it that normal? had the car serviced a month ago... replaced plugs (using NGK now), air filter, oil filter, engine oil, trans fluid. now, first of all, i want better milage, what should i do? drop a K&N filter in? change to synthetic lube? get a custom exhaust? anyone, please advise! thanks.

performance parts will drink more fuel!!!
Id say your injection is ballsed up. My folks used to have an 88 camry that lurched in to gear and tryed to surge away way to strongly at idle, it was the injection which was at fault. Probs whats causing your terrible mpg. Dealer job im afraid

i thot that too... my mech suggested the same.... but i was inclined towards the intake/exhaust theory because everywhere i looked, they all said the same thing- take the restriction away from the intake/exhaust and it results in 2/3 mpg increase... also gives more power... anyway, i'll replace the injectors in a month or 2 anyway... thanks for the advice.
