My eclipse tranny is stuck in 2nd gear plz help.

I was getting on the highway and was goin 65 and it was in 4th gear all of a sudden it slamed into 2nd gear and then went into nuetral (btw my tranny is automatic). Now it wont switch from 2nd gear. Any suggestions? My eclipse is a stock 1995 rs 2.0L doche 16 valve engine.

Check fluid and change filter if you gots a lot of miles. Check to see if shift cable and throttle linkage are adjusted properly. Then if you see no change in the symptoms take it to the shop.

My friend had a 1990 talon tsi awd 2nd day he had ti one of the pins holding the shift linkage to the tranny fell out. leving him only in 3rd gear. I just followed the linkage and popped a new pin in there and she was good to go

It may be the external shift sensor. Had the same thing happen to a 99 Eclipse, but it would not come out of first gear unless you physically put the auto trans into low and moved the lever as the rpms rose. It then went from that to where it would downshift from 4th to 2nd as you indicated on its own as you slowed , all this in the same day, found out it was the EXTERNAL SHIFT SENSOR.

Think the total cost even at the dealership was 150.00 or so to replace it. Had I known that was the deal I could have done it myself for just the cost of the part which is less than 100.00

However about 3 months later , the entire trans had to be replaced which fortunately was handled under an extended warranty to the tune of 1600.00
