my 1990 silverado fires right up with hardly any turns of the starter when the truck just previously shut off.when the truck is allowed to sit for some time then the starter/engine turns over several times before she fires. Is this a problem with the fuel pressure regulator???? If so what do i do to fix the problem?and at what cost if i do the repair myself? Is it an easy fix?thanks

could be fuel pump going. Mine did same thing, except it would turn over and not start when it was cold. It took many times trying to start it in the end before it would run. After a lot of money at the dealer it still did it. I took it back and they said it was the pump. Change the filter always when you do a pump change.

Could very well be! My '97 would do the same. When it sat a while It would take longer to start than when just shut off for a short time.

The regulator holds the fuel pressure so it'll have fuel (pressure) at startup. If it's leaking the pressure drops off so you have to crank it a bit to get it back.

Bad news is (at least on my '97) the regulator is UNDER the intake on the 305 V8. Very costly in terms of labor as the intake etc. has to be removed to get at it, fairly cheap for the valve itself.....

Hope this helps.
