Do you guys think that the rising/high gas prices is making cars with V8s totally unwantable even though they get good gas mileage especially for a V8.. I mean look at this! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-Chevrolet-Corvette-Convertible_W0QQitemZ4574238687QQcategoryZ6168QQrd Z1QQcmdZViewItem

A prety good Vette with 1/3 of its engine life used.. I mean my Monte has the same miles or near to that and I gotta pay 10K for it
So someone explain why these cars which are very good being sold so low? Unless you gotta kill someone along with the payment.. So what I think is that right now is the time to BUY.

Well all those Vettes I'm sure have a reserve price set no lower than $40k. So there's no possible chance of them selling any lower than that.

Nah, the reserve price is the lowest price that the seller is willing to sell the item. Say, you just win an auction for $10 but next to the price it says "(Reserve not met)". That means, the seller is not obligated to sell the item to you (not saying he/she won't, they possibly might) because you didn't meet the price that he/she was willing to sell.
As for the 85 vette, well, I wasn't really referring to it. Mainly just the C6's since those were the ones in question.

The 85 (and thereabouts) model year vette's are among the least desireable and that probably is the reason for the no reserve 1500.00 auction.. but wait and see what the winning bid is before you go getting all upset. And there's no way in HELL you're gonna get one of the newer one posted for anywhere near 20K, unless it's been beat to death and then it's probably not even worth that.
(I'd rather have a VW Thing or a pool table before an 85 vette.)

Gas Price will go down in about 4 years. Now your saying "What is that one of your guesses again?". No, the US reported finding oil in locations that they never thought oil existed, and to start using this oil, setting everything up, will take about 4 years. And in 4 years, a barrel of oil is scedualed to hit $20 a barrel. That translates in under $2 a gallon. V8s will riase again, mark my word.

To be honest I really don't know. I do know that the 85' body style is like the "joke" corvette body style... and also is the body style that was responsible for the shitty sales that made Chevrolet discontinue it. Had it not been for the couple of guys that got together off company time and re-designed the whole thing from the ground up back in 1990, or whenever it was, the Corvette would not be in production today.

Heard about that yesterday. Unfortunately it took the whole New Orleams incident to show the environmentalist fuckrods that they went and legislated our way into dependency on foreign oil. What's 2 refineries going to hurt... one in the Northeast and one in the Midwest. We haven't built a refinery in over 30 years... the efficiencies gained by new plants would be tremendous and they could even probably close a couple of the existing plants. God forbid some stupid fucking turtle live there. Idiots don't even realize that the species they're trying protect aren't even native species like 85% of the time.

Well thats kinda what im talking about.. right now every badass car with a V8 is going down in value because of high gas prices.. its like buying a really cheap jacket during the summer because during the winter the price would just 3 fold.

haaawwwch *clears throat* - you must not have heard my correctly.
In my first post I said that the reason the 85 Vette was so cheap was because it was an 85 vette, which meant that it's not because it was a gas guzzling V8 - You can find an 85 Vette for 1500.00 all day long, anytime (at least around here anyway)... it's just that no-one wants them. :screwy: Classless, styless, pieces of crap from the parachute pants wearing, spandex wearing, sweat band wearing, coke-snorting, sex-on-the-beach drinking, teased hair, bad movie, Ford Festiva and Chevy Spectrum 80's that most of us would like to forget. :grinno::iceslolan:sly:
As far as that last post, it was in response to CT91s (I think that who it was) post that the 85 Vette had a crappy engine.
Sooo... BLAM!!! Took that point and pounded its ass into the pavement.:smokin:

If you have a truely desireable car, gas price isn't going to affect it's value because the people that will be buying them (or already own them) have so much money it really doesn't matter how much gas is. If you have a road rocket and are gertting on it all the time then yes you might have issues with MPG, but that shouldn't utlimately affect the price, at least not by much.
Honestly, don't flame me for this, but gas still isn't all that expensive. What are we talking $20 a tank extra??? I know people who'll spend that on cigarettes, coffee, or lottery tickets every day or two. $20 or even $30 a tank ain't all that much even if you're talking every week.
Eventually you'll see salaries start to rise to cover transportation costs and everything will work out anyhow. I just had 2 of our employees ask for mileage allowances for when they travel to client's offices, and we're only talking about 20 miles month!!! (Gee a whole $7.50, take it and leave me the fuck alone!)
It's just the everyday schmoes like me and you who can't afford such a drastic fluctuation because our budgets are in the tank. Me because I'm supporting 3.5 people (baby due in November) and a walking stomach - (Earl), and haven't shoe-horned all my additional expenses into my budget yet. AND (I'm still waiting for a substantial raise.) You are still in school and don't have a full-time job, etc. Eventually you'll (and I will too) get things in order, the market will straighten out, the government will allow new refineries and the whole price of gas thing won't be that big of a concern.

Under $20 a barrel? You have an active imagination my friend, we would all love to see that, but oil will never go back near $20/barrel for the US.

Thats all bullshit and nothing else. Most people that drive Corvettes have two cars or three. The only people that sell their v8s right now are the ones owing crapy ass shit $500 gas hogs. And stupid folks. Even with these prices its not worth "getting rid of" the car while trying to save a few pennies at the pump.

Re the gas thing... Keep in mind no-one's gonna work at McDonalds (example) for $250 a week if commuting expense is gonna eat up half their pay. OR they're gonna want more hours, and then McD's will be forced to provide benefits for full-time ee's, or they'll be forced to boost pay rates. Might come as an increase in minimum wage or something, but, it will happen.
Career jobs??? Lots of industries are undergoing some serious employment change due to advances in technology. My wife just lost her job a few months back, and can't find new work in the same field ANYWHERE. Replaced by computer programs. Jobs are there, but the $85k+ jobs are fought over like the only crayon in a daycare... kicking, biting and screaming. With 300+ million people in this country, you're gonna have to hunt to get good work and good pay and you're gonna hafta out perform everyone else to keep it. Things will work out, times are tough. You have had a monster financial crash, a recession, a terrorist attack, a war, a major natural disaster and some other stuff all when the companies that used to care about employees are now catering to the stock holders. It ain't right but the little guy is getting raped, ROYALLY, and is gonna hafta to put up with it until the whole mess comes full circle and wages catch up to sales prices.
Me.... I'm fucked. My wife is 7 months pregnant, have 2 kids already, and no-one is hiring medical transcriptionists. Put the kids in day-care and have her get a job???? First who's gonna hire a woman who's gonna be out of commission for at least 3 months, and then she'll have to make like $400.00 a week just to pay for daycare. Not worth it. Keep her home, and hope that Bush's tax cuts etc, don't get rolled back or sunset. If that happens I'll literally have to sell my house.

Very true.
and wages catch up to sales prices.
That hasn't happened for about 30 years.
Most large corporations are full of greed, and few are interested in the well being of their employees. The human factor has been driven out of the equation as their concentration has turned almost solely to the stockholders (as you mentioned earlier). Any way you look at it, rising energy prices are not good for anyone other than those who hold stock in energy companies. If wages are forced up, companies don't take the hit, they pass the costs on, and the consumer of the good you produce/provide takes it in the teeth. Inflation.

Not completely no, but eventually the sales price will cap out for a while... you aren't going to pay $10 for a cheesesburger, and McD's is going to have to pay it's employees well enough for to justify working.
Instead the absolutely HUGE increase in prices, in gas for instance, there is usually a slow ratcheting up, so that you don't notice the increase as much and don't feel you're getting screwed. A penny here, a nickel there, and overtime there's disparity, but it usually doesn't threaten as many livelihoods as it it is now.
Now it's like WTF??? Last month gas was $40 a tank, now it's $60 and last month grocerires ran $120 a week, now they're running $160+. My electric bill is through the roof, and all my standard costs of living are too. Eventually it'll either get so bad the Gov't will have to step in and put price caps on stuff or the market will even out.
But let's be honest. I live within 15 miles of Sunoco's refinery, how in the hell did New Orleans affect THEIR cost???? Price gouging is damn ridiculous. Funny thing is it's not the gas stations that are making all the money. You can thank the damn eco-terrorist law makers for allowing only so many refineries over the years (and not allowing them to drill for oile here) which gave the companies that own the refineries the power to screw (literally) almost every single american at once.
