Automatic Transmission

Picture this if you will...

1997 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Front wheel drive (duh), 2.4L.

Does the engine have to be displaced or removed when replacing this transmission? Or would it even make the job easier. Does the exhaust manifold and/or associated parts have to be removed or moved out of the way?

When I received my car back from the dealership after a warranty repair, I had a check engine light. They had already replaced the TPS which they said the light was on for after they replaced the tranny. But then after about 25 miles, the light came on again. The codes were for O2 sensor after the converter and a misfire on cyclinder 2. I also noticed a few days ago that I had a crimped A/C hard line behind the engine.

It just occured to me today that they might have removed the engine and/or moved the exhaust system to replace the tranny. If they did, they might have ruined the O2 sensor, damaged the TPS, and somehow caused a misfire. The A/C line could have been crushed while trying to place the engine because it is not something that roll would have caused.

Any ideas on this? Every time I think about the problems with this car, I feel like the dealership caused them because they had the car for 2 months and I did not have a TPS, misfire or O2 sensor problem when I gave them the car.
