Turbo???

I was looking at turboing my 3.1L, but have herd that i would loose my brakes because of vacume loss. is this true. it is an 88 gt. i dont know if any came w/ powertsteering but mine doesnt have it i herd that that was part of the reason

Squires Turbo Systems has a unit that bolts up in place of the muffler on your vehicle and uses a dedicated oil line for lubrication.
...shouldn't harm vacuum of power brakes, etc.
if you do utilize tradition turbo, look into a Wilwood proportional valve to assist regulating and/or altering vacuum pressure in the line.

On my 2.8L, the engine and brakes are already protected by exsisting one way check valves so the positive manifold pressure from a turbo won't bother anything. In 3 years, I have not yet run across a scenario with my turbo Fiero where I didn't have functioning power brakes (perhaps a stuck throttle on a long downhill?). In my other turbo car, a separate pump supplies vacuum to the brakes, etc.. I guess that's being fairly cautious.

thanks guys but you have done a turbo set up and not had any problems. where did you get the turbo kit?

although the 3.1 is a bigger version of the 2.8-V6/60degree, if you have that in the Fiero mid-engine, turbo clearances will definitely be different.
IRM is a company that specializes in aftermarket Fiero components, including an all-out off-road turbo kit; however, the 3.1 and the 2.8 manifolds will be different bolt-ups, and there again engine bay clearance may be a problem.
fierosails.com is another place to look around for additional links or forums of Fiero people who may have your current (or similar) configuration, and have already went down the road of turbo-ing.
if you are in a larger city, look up some speed and/or fabrication shops to see if they do this work; you might find local info if their are any (dare I say it) V-Tec clubs or soobWRX shops, or even a car club that has Buick Grand Nationals may have local contacts, tips, and answers to assist your project.
nothing against turbo (I have a Saab and prefer it over the Audi), but if it costs more than its worth, may not completely rule out dryNOS kits, or a supercharger.
GM Performance makes alot of parts and mods for the 3.1L, as these first Lumina/Monte engines were IMSA/CART long before NASCAR; you may elect to rad it out without putting a blow dryer on it.
