My first question would be does it click when you are coasting, or holding the accelerator constant.

There are a lot of possibilites, one thing to check would be brakes. Sometimes brake people don't install the anti rattle springs and it can make a ticking noise like you described.
Press the brakes slightly when it's ticking and see if it stops. I've had this happen to me and I ended up buying shims to correct the problem and when I took things apart, I found out the springs hadn't been installed.

If it's the transmission or cv joints, it should behave differently if you are accelerating or coasting. Try to determine if this is the case.

A friend of mine had a similar problem and it turned out to be her keys clicking against the dash.

Like I said, there are a lot of possiblilies.
