ipod nano

incase you all missed it, Apple debuted their new itunes cell phone (motorola rockr, working on cingular's network) and their new ipod nano.

i'm seriously thinking about getting a nano. i have a creative labs zen xtra mp3 player that holds 30 gigs. when i bought (over a year ago) it was cheaper than the ipods for the space. it's a little bulky but works pretty well. the nano would be nice to take to class with me and stuff. for the longest time i've boycotted ipod. but with the physical size of the nano, it's ridiculous. plus i'd get the 4 gb version, like a 1000 songs. that should satisfy my musical cravings for a while.

any ideas? should i stick with the zen, or spring for a nano also. i can get a deal through my school where the nano would be 229

I would wait to hear some reviews of them first, as they are brand new. But I have a creative zen nano, just for when I go to school and everything. It only holds one gig, but I downloaded all my songs to it and still have room left. I just really don't listen to that many songs I guess. But the thing is so small, the length of my thumb, and its skinnier then the width of my thumb, lol. Oh, and I got it still in the package for 30, haha. Instead of the 140 dollar price at walmart. I never really liked ipods, and always hated any apple computers, including the laptops(they suck). If I was you I would get the creative labs 5 gb version. There really small also.

My buddy got nano and let me screw around with it and I honestly don't liek it, it's too small, it feels awkward to hold and the clickwheel is a lil hard to use because it's so small so it's easy to jump 3 songs, I went with the mini and love it. Ultimately it's up to you find someone with it and see how you like it. Also with ipods keep in mind there is a LOT of support for them out there.

Hey, I've never used itunes but this might help.

WMP uses one folder and searches it for new songs. For example, I have one whole hard drive for audio/video stuff I get off limewire. Limewire saves it to my (G:) folder(harddrive) and my WMP library is my (G:) folder. So maybe under Itunes preferences there is an options folder where its library is located.

Like on WMP..my computers settings orginally save it to c:/document/settings etc, I had to manually change it to work. I don't know if this helps, or even if you understand it, lol. Sorry if I confused you more.

My creative zen nano can get the music directly off WMP. I just sync the songs, and put them on my mp3 player. I take it this can't be done with that?

:frown: no, it can't an it sucks. i have an HP handhald which has media player 10, coming back soon, it had "a defective mothorboard" and "faulty audio equipment" luckily collected, fixed an shipped back free under warranty, its so much easier to use. but i cant get all of my music off cd onto the ipod because it has some stupid coyright crap on it an i cant convert it to useable format, or something along those lines.

just to let you know, after a grand total of 5 days (now isn't that a long time ?) of having the ipod nano it broke. same problem as some 1/10 customers have had; a cracked screen. i took it back and got a refund. (£180~$320) the place i got it from were really helpful about it, never asked any questions, they even ordered me a new one, but said i wasn't comitted to having it. so im not going to take it.

instead the money's going towards some fancy bluetooth headphones for the HP an 1 or 2 big (1gb) memory cards for the HP too. its so much easier to use, has a ridiculously powerful amp (more powerful than my sony vaio, an can destroy headphones) an built-in speakers (also better than computer's) and with WMP-10 i can sync stuff easy.

oh, an my mate bought a nano, got it home loaded music charged it etc... 3 hours after buying it, it was broken. same cracked screen.

My friend just got one and it appears to not be one with the cracking problem. They are pretty amazing and "impossibly small." I can't wait til they have 40 gb players that size!!

when i said 1/10 customers' nanos have broken i meant so far, they just are strong enough, you sit down with that in your pocket it could break, mine had a bow in it when i put it to a steel ruler. i'd be careful, and they seem to scratch really easily, i polished mine with brasso like 5 times, it got scratch when it was in my pocket with just my phone, which is all plastic on the outside (and inside). so just be careful.

i heard apple are recalling them, an they'll change bronken ones free... still they shoulda been fine when they were made in my opinion.

Hey I gotta question. Could you show me what your talking about for the memory sticks? Ive seen 1gb memory sticks, is that what your talking about?

what i mean by "memory sticks/cards" are those square-ish ones used in cameras etc.. they're thin and square, you can get them up to 2gb right but a pair of 1gb ones works out cheaper (£45~$90) each here.

here's a pic of the thing im talking about:

Looks pretty kickass.

Are they really that loud? Haha, I love loud things..

considering the small size an weight they are surprisingly loud, of course as always the louder you go to lower the quality, but overall the quality if really impressive, with headphones i cant put it past about 1/2 power, it really is that powerful that it will put loads of power through headphones.

overall, although i dont use it for a lot besides the camera mp3 an a few otherthings like notes an stuff, its great. its so useful to have all those things in one, i mean MSN messenger, wireless 'net, bluetooth built in speakers camera, video camera, voice recorder, lots of other programs on it an ones ou can add on.

but to actually answer your question, yep its sure loud, i mean i dont want to crank it up too high for fear i'll damage it, but if you do have a problem with it HP are sooo helpful, in the uk they arranged everything for me.

on a sidenote, i order the bluetooth headphones on sunday, an they would've been delivered today, but no one was home, now how's that for fast dispatch ?
