Brake Lights

My brake light keeps coming on while I'm driving. At first, it was just 1x per day but it's getting worse. I also have trouble accelerating and sometimes, it won't even start esp in the morning. Someone suggested that I should put STP product in my fuel tank because my fuel injectors could be clogged. What do you think? Please help and feel free to e-mail me directly. Thanks

It sounds like your brake light switch is mis adjusted. Put your head under the dash and follow the brake pedal's arm up. It should be resting on a pushbutton switch of some kind. They are adjustable and typically should be adjusted the whole way tight against the pedal when resting. That way its certain to be off when your foot is off the pedal.

You can try fuel injector cleaner since its inexpensive and it might help but its not usually effective as a cure. Operation of an engine is dependent on proper input from many sensors designed to operate within certain parameters. The computer then adjusts fuel and spark delivery (among other things) within their possible range of operation. Its just possible that a sensor is no longer able to deliver the right information or a component is no longer able to deliver within its range. For that reason, its wiser to check the more mechanical things. I would check the fuel filter, fuel pump, and ignition system first since they are simpler and easier to pinpoint.

By brake light do you mean you taillights or a brake light on the instrument cluster?

By brake light, I mean the light that comes on your dash when you've parked your car (eg on an incline) and use the emergency/hand brake. It's as though I'm driving with my emergency brake still on.

Ooh. Check the brake fluid level. It will be a reservoir under the hood right in front of the brake pedal and usually says something like "use only DOT4".

If its low it might be tripping the light. If its not low, then there's a problem somewhere else with the brakes. Usually the big brake chain stores like Midas will do a diagnostic for free, but they'll probably try to sell you stuff you don't need so be on guard.

Forget what I said earlier about the brake light switch. :)
