Hey Guys,
I havent posted in a while, but now i'm in a delema. As you can see I have a 95 Tsi FWD Auto with 131k miles it has a 14b turbo and a turbo-xs hp boost controller. I found a 97 Tsi AWD Std. with 168k miles stock. they want 5,000 for the car and would trade in my car for about 2,500. Now I bought my car in a Colorado auction for 1,800. I'm going to test drive the car today. Just wanted to know what would you guys do? Thanks in advance

I don't know about you, but I would never buy a car with 168k miles on it unless you are going to swap the engine out, or rebuild it.

Yeah, unless you're going to do a rebuild i would just keep your car 30,000 miles is a big jump in mileage.

I would go for it, as long as everything checks out when you test drive it. It's 2 years newer, AWD, and manual, and the price isn't too bad. The mileage is high, but I'm sure it has enough life left in it for you to build up your resources for a rebuild. Plus, they are giving your more than you paid for your car to begin with, so your actually gaining a better car and making a profit.

Well I went to go test drive it and it was awesome!!! it had a boost leak somewhere which was no big deal, but when i was done test driving it i was talking to the dealership owner and as they drove it back i noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

doesn't that usually mean the turbo is going bad?

Could be burning oil.

White smoke is normally coolant. Might want to do a compression test.

White smoke is oil..
Try to get them to drop the price that is way to much for that many miles! Also add in that it smokes WTF.... Then 6Bolt the hell out of it!

As a general rule.......white smoke is coolant burning off, blue would be oil burning off, and black smoke means your car is running too rich... and alota the times white smoke means a blown head gasket...

I was also thinking that the turbo might be bad because they told me it had a boost leak and it wasnt really pulling when i kicked in the turbo.

I wouldnt pay $5000 for a car with that many miles. If you can talk them down and you want to swap/build the engine, go for it.

Get the price down, make the profit off your car and 6 bolt it.

You should try to get more for your car. I'd say at least $3500 if they won't accept that then sell the car on your own you could probably get 4k if not more.
