Shelby Question

Had someone from work tell me that Shelby's previously used 427's. Is this correct, or is he just feedin me some bs..?

yea i think the old shelbys had 427

which shelby are you talking about? there are more that one... the the mustang 350 and 500. theres also the shelby cobra. while i cant recall off the top of my head what the 500 has i think the 350 has a 302 dont quote me on that though. the shelby cobra however definatly did have a 427.

The Shelby GT-500s were the only ones that had 427s. The other engine that was put in there was the 428 Cobra Jet.
There were a few 427s put in though because the side oil pan design made it difficult to put into the engine bay. I think it took almost double the time to put a 427 in as it did to put in a 428.
This is why most GT-500s have the Cobra Jet. It's unknown just how many GT-500s have 427s and the actual numbers will probably never be known. They are kind of rare though.
There was also the Shelby A/C Cobra that had a 427 in it as well. They're kind of hard to find too. Most Shelby Cobras and Cobra replicas use Chevy 350s and Ford 351s.
