Clutch Inter Lock Switch

What is the point of the Clutch Inter Lock Switch. Why would they have a button on a truck that when you hold it down it makes it so you can start the truck with out holding in the Clutch. Its just some thing I don't under stand. lol Can anyone help me out with this question? Its a 1994 Nissan p/u XE. Thanks!
