Im am getting a wait4me tune, and I am wondering should I put in a cooler thermostat (if so which one) before I have it tuned. What advantages or disavantages would I see.
Thanks

I used a 160º t-stat in mine with a Nelson tune. I had some similar questions to yours beofre I got my t-stat. I live near Atlanta, and even with my 160º t-stat, my engine runs between 185º-190º on any day of the week. Here was Allen's response when I asked him about it:
An engine running about 180 deg is just fine. I install the 160stat in all my vehicles, especially here in south tx.
Running the engine cooler allows your timing to advance further, without getting detonation.

I think you'll be fine. As I understand it, the pcm adjusts the timing according to the engine temperature even at stock settings.

Get your trans work done before the tune, Servo's and possible shift kit if you need/want to.

Yep, the first thing I did (after the 4 headlight mod) was install a corvette servo in the tranny. Definitely worth the money, and not very hard to do.

Even my Hypertech tune recommended I install a 160 T-stat when doing the tune. I did and all works fine!! :sunglasse

I think Hypertech is the only manufacturer of the t-stat, but they are also sold under another name
