how to remove 'em?

on my 97, three screws come out, and the two halves of the cover get loose. but they seem loosely attached in some way to the base of the steering wheel itself.

do i need to pull the wheel just to take those two pieces of plastic off?

Yep. Ya do have to pull the wheel first. Make sure to disarm the airbag before by taking the 12V- terminal off at least one minute. They designed it this way so no one can steal your car. Automotive engineers should be made to work on cars before designing them. The really stupid part is that if someone wants to steal your car they can get the covers off with a good pry bar. It trashes the covers, but what do they care?
Engineers--0. Car thieves--10. Engineers-you gotta love em.

ha! i got them off by mistake. i pulled hte screws and that gave me enough wiggle room to work on the ignition wires underneath. then, while driving with them loose (!) the covers just popped off. i had to force them back on, but it worked fine.

next time, ill just force them off too.

cheers,
anthony
