Hi TI am looking for jetta 2002, 2003 or 2004 and I am only interested in
these models 2.0 GlS and 1.8(turbo). But I heard that people are
having alot of problems in 1.8 turbo becasue it is turbo charged and some people say there is nothing wrong with it. So I really don't know
what to believe. Could somebody help me is that ture or not.

the 1.8T is an excellent car. The only consistant problem I've heard (keep in mind my sister drives an '02 turbo) is the OEM coils are crap. Apparently there's a recall, so they fix them free. I guess it's just the hassle.

I've got an 01 GLS and even though it's quick and has decent acceleration for it's class, i still wish i had the 1.8T for more power

IMHO you're better off starting with a 1.8T than buying a 2.0 and then modding it to get to the same performance level as 1.8T. The cost to upgrade would probably eclipse the difference in price between the two anyway. You're not going to lose out on reliability with the turbo unless you constantly abuse the car. Also, the 1.8T has many more performance upgrade options than the 2.0 or VR6 if you feel the need for more power. BTW- I believe the 1.8T was boosted to 180hp beginning in the 2002 model year.
