Belt squeaks and squeals

This sounds dumb but I'm needing a second opinion. I hav a 01' GA 3.4, it has a few mods/upgrades. My engine belt, new GM part, it squeaks and squeals when taking off from a stop position. Usually around 3500-4000 rpms when it shifts from 1st to 2nd, not manual shifting, and 2 to 3. Thats the only time it squeaks and squeals, but I'm afraid it'll break the belt. I do hav an aluminum crank pully.

What does anyone think this is, the belt slip or the tensioner not keeping tension? I thought of replacing the New belt with this one from pfyc.

Even tried a little belt dressing, made it worse. Thanks in Advance XI

I just put a gatorback on my 95 2.3L, no problems yet, not sure how the life will be, but I figured i'd give it a try.

Cheaper solution is putting the orig crank pulley back on. How many pony's can the aluminum one really give you?

I doubt the underdrive pulley is the problem. About 10 in his case, by the way.

Xero, I think it sounds like the actual belt is your problem. I would reccomend running a gatorback; I've heard nothing but good stuff from other 3.4 guys that run them. My sister had belt slip issues on the 3.4 in her Impalla, and after she installed a gatorback, she had no more problems. It quieted everything down. I would reccomend trying a gatorback. If that for some reason doesn't resolve it, then you'll have to look into the tensioner being a possibility.

The aluminum crank pulley doesnt give any HP, maybe low end torque. The only reason I put it on is because its lighter and the revs jump up quicker.

I does look slick, slicker than the stock one. I read where the Gatorback was cut to keep noise down, and they stretch less. I hav a new tentioner laying around too, but I'll definitely pick up one of those Good Year belts. Thanks Guys

I have an 02 Grand Prix. I have a squeak at about 3k rpm's. I changed the belt, tension arm, and water pump. It still squeaks. Actually it's starting to squeak at 2.5k now. I can't isolate the squeak. Any suggestions?

And what "aluminum crank pulley" are you using? Any pulley with a lighter rotational mass then stock is taking a load off the engine, and will free horsepower. On a mildly modded engine, with a UD pulley like from FFP or RSM, one can be looking at gains of 5 to 10 hp.

So are you going with gatorback or goodyear? I'm confused.

My friend's 01 GP had a squeak at mid-range RPM's, and it turned out it was the alternator pulley. If you want to listen closer, try using a section of rubber hose, putting one end to your ear, and moving the other end around. If the squeak isn't from any of the things you said, then my guess would be alternator.

The gatorback belt is made by goodyear and probably the only goodyear product I would willingly buy. I have one on my 95, no problems with it over 4 years. If they can make a good belt, why do they make such crappy tires?

The crank pully came from RSM. I knew it free'd up some pony's but I dont realy count it. The upper intake and the throtlebody came from RSM also. I ported/polished the lower intakes myself. With the larger exhaust I figure around 200hp+/-.

The Gaterback is made by Good Year. I should get one tomorow morning.
And they do make a good tire, the Assurance 80k mile tire. Free rotate and balance for the life of the tire.
