does anybody know a place i can get plastic in Australia / online?
i've looked at evergreen anmd plastruct styrene, and it is too expensive.
i need it for my secret project.
i have reverted to attacking an old TV with a crowbar and keeping the broken plastic bits. :loser:

never thought of that, i tried an industrial plastic's place.
although very helpful, they had nothing i could use.
up until now i've been using plastic plant labels, but they arent available anymore, and i ran out

Take a look at the stuff you throw away in the kitchen bin.
Many plastic trays in the food industrie are made from styrene.

somebody here has got it correct, but who?
yes its an SR20det
not the best detail, but that leaves it open for others to detail it better.
i MAY cast some and sell them, (discounted to you guys of course).
what would be a reasonable price?
if i sell them it will only be the block and top, not exhaust and other add on bits.

So what is the point of having a "secret project"?
If it's such a secret it should be damn astounding when it's finally revealed.
Now that you tell us you're making an SR, it better be good. There is no such thing as "not the best detail".
Freakin' build it first and WE will decide if it's even worth selling/buying.

well, when i say "not the best detail" i mean it wont have every single rib and hole that is on a real one, it is going to have most of it's detail on the top pieces (as they will be visible).
i only really intended it to go into my Silvia build and thought if it was good enough, others might want one.
and i only started it a few days ago, the rest has been collecting pics, and some measurements.
also, it has been a secret until now because it was only in planning, if i spoke of it before i began, and ended up not doing it, it would have wasted everyone's time.

microwave food contaners are where I get most of my stuff. I bet if you were really resourceful, you'd find free plastic just about everywhere you look.
oh, and I too have a "SECRET" project...not unlike yours, let's see who wins...or even collaberate. competition usually makes for better stuff. now that I know someone else is working on one, I better step up my detail level.

So, what I want to know is how different in size is it from the Honda 4cyl block? If the blocks are close you can get away with using a Honda unit (since they are available in both 1:24 and 1:25) and just replace the valve cover and the timing belt cover with scratch Nissan parts, and pinch a transmission from whatever other kit has a close match. I think ya'll make things too hard for yourselves. This project would require only four scratch parts in my book - valve cover, timing belt cover, oil pan, intake manifold.

What 1/24 honda engines are available? Is it full engine detail or just the normal half @ss die cast style where the only usable part is the valve cover?

I think Will is referring to the Revell Honda kits with their B-series VTEC valve covers...they do have fully engine blocks though FWD trannys, but like Will says can easily be hacked off.

For 1:24 the elusive F20C (S2000 motor) is available from time to time. I've made a mold for it so I can cast more for myself. Where I to do an SR20, this is the block I'd use; they have the same displacement so they're bound to be close in size. Maybe by not using the top and bottom parts of the block (Sakatsu casted it in 4 parts) I could make it taller or shorter and I could sandwich some styrene between the block halves to make it wider if need be. It wouldn't be 100% SR20, but it's got a lot of detail that would fool anyone, plus it's got a RWD layout transmission, so half your work is done there, too. Hell, even the intake manifold is pretty similar. You'd just have to do the valve cover and the timing belt cover, and do the requisite turbo work (which I don't count as part of SR20 scratch work since we all know we'd make new turbos even if the SR20 were available.)

Not true, the F20c is significantly taller, the transmission is HUGE compared to the SR. But I get your drift, it can be made to fool people in 1/24 scale.

Yeah, I think the SR20 is more square since it runs turbos, it doesn't need the crazy compression to make power from. But, like I was saying, the head of Sakatsu's motor is seperate from the block halves, and there is a third part of the block that sandwiches between the block halves and the oil pan. Remove one of these and it'd be close enough, I'm sure. It beats the hell out of scratching it all, plus if you cast the F20 in resin, you'll have a better motor laying around to put in something else....

maybe I should get the sakatsu S2000 engine, play with it a bit. Worst case scenario, I have my S2000 engine for an S2000 build. I planned on doing the sakatsu engine in a S2000 eventually anyways.
