Painting a Trilogy

Well, HLJ should have my F40 deliverd soon, they three sets that I orderd were shipped 2 days ago with SAL, so, hopefully they will be in this week.

So, my question is, colors for the Trilogy (F40, F50, F60/Enzo). I was thinking, black and red are too normal, blue is "meh". Yellow and White I am afraid to use. So, I was thinking, make a poll and ask AF, because they seem to know everything.

you could try some cherry red, wine red, or some pearlecent grey based color

edit: have you thought about flat colors, like beige/yellow?

How about a nice two-tone. Like, deep burgundy/bronze/something on the majority of the bodywork, and gloss black on the roof and back section.
Here is an example of what I mean:

Alot seem to like the gunmetal/light grey. The two tone looks pretty cool, but I'm not sure where I'd make the lines for it on the body. Possibly just the roof, then engine compartment lid.

a silver color, or maybe a gun metal color.

I'd go with a darker silver, almost gum metal. But I would also spray the F40 red. Sorry, but that car in my mind just has to be red... I can only picture that body in Red...

And how about doing Italian flag? So F40 must be red, F50 is the uglyest one so it can be green (not ordinary green but some nice perl/metalic one) and Enzo in pearl white.

I agree, it's an awesome idea to make an italian flag!

But if I built them, I'd probably make them all red... that might be not so unique, but Ferrari's look best in red.

p.s. or maybe a light to medium silver...

Well, lets see....

The only colors I'd consider doing all three in would be Rosso Corsa, Giallo Modena, and Nero. If you're going to do these three benchmark Ferrari's together, it would be a shame not to do them in one of the traditional Ferrari colors. Besides, they're the only three colors the F40 was offered in (and it always looked goofy in custom repaints). I've never liked the F50 in red, and have always thought 'Rosso Corsa' translated to 'ordinary red', but to do all three the same, it really should be red.

Other considerations: I wouldn't consider silver/gun metal for this trio. The F50 and F60 look great in it, but not the F40! The F40's body styling just doesn't look good in metallics.

All CF is out, too- at least if you want them the same color. The F40's bodywork was kevlar, not CF. Much as I would love to see a bare kevlar F40, it's not going to match with the F50 and F60.

I'm a bit intregued by the idea of the Italian flag, and I too would do the F40 in red, the F50 in green, and the F60 in white.

http://cobracolors.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000002/color-ferraribiancoavus.jpg

But the green would have to be metallic (solid would look awful), and the red and white would have to be solid, which might not look good with the metallic green. Good luck finding a pic of the F50 in green, but I suspect it was at least offered in Verde Mugello, and might look decent in it.

If you do all three in one color, you will be so sick of whatever color you choose by the time you're done (especially it you polish them!), that you really need to pick something you like the cars themselves in. Otherwise you'll never look at them again.

The italian flag idea is pretty cool. I think I'll do that paint job. Just need to figure out which tamiya sprays to use.

Also, an F50 in green.

well, I would say, type ferrari in the search function, look what colours you have and then choose an different one. If you paint them all 3 red.. well then you'll have 3 red ferraris. No matter how good you'll paint them.. they'll never stand out in the pack of ferraris here. Paint one metallic skybleu , one blazing orange and another one really dark green and you'll have 3 specials. (those colours are just what pops up in my mind) Just be creative!!!

The F40 is really blah in silver, but the other 2 look great.

Check out my gallerys for some unique colors for all 3 cars

Okay, I'm going to do the Italian Flag scheme. F40-red, Enzo-white, and F50-green.

Now, I need to decide which Tamiya sprays to use. I was thinking about using TS-20 Metallic green for the F50. Then use TS-49 Bright Red for the F40, but I don't know if there are better options or what to use for the Enzo.

ALRIGHT! WHO ADDED PINK TO THE LIST?

Hafta say I agree. The Italian flag idea sounds interesting, but I'm not sure the Enzo looks best in white, and the F50 almost certainly doesn't in green (the F40 in red, however, is spot on). I still think it's best to paint them all in colors you like on them individually.

If you do paint them red, white, and green, the Tamiya spray colors you'll want will likely be Italian red, pure white, and British racing green(!). Here's Tamiya's color list (http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/list/spray.htm).

Whatever you do, just don't paint the F40 silver or metallic grey. :disappoin

And for the sake of all that is sacred, a Toyota color??!!

White is a ****ing ass to use. I have to go get some brake fluid tomorrow, and dunk all the enzo parts. The green went on just fine, but I don't know why the white was jacked up. It did not seem to stick to the primer and was really runny. Maybe by some chance, I got a crap can of paint, let's hope so.

The first TS color I used was racing white. I used the techniques described here (http://www.tamiyausa.com/articles/feature.php?article-id=35) , and had no trouble with it.

You're doing all three at the same time? I would have suggested to do the F50 first, then the F60, and finally the F40.

99% isopropyl is safer and cheaper than brake fluid....

The F40 does look weird in any color but red.
I suppose that Nart Metallic color would look pretty nice on all of them. MPWR painted his F50 a similar color. Looked really nice. I feel like the enzo would look kinda....."off", in any kind of silver color
