I got my hands on a '71 Ventura II. It has a 307 in it, automatic. But it won't go intro drive. Well it will but it doesn't move. When I put it into reverse it goes backwards, but when I put it into 1st, 2nd or drive it doesn't move. Anyone have any idea where the problem is? Other than the tranny being screwed up?

The forward clutches in the transmission are fried. You will need to rebuild it. It should be a TH350.

You could try checking to see if it's low on tranny fluid. This would cause slipping. If it's not low, chances are it's fried. :frown:

The good news is that a TH350 tranny is relatively cheap to rebuild. They are also plentiful and usually pretty tough.

I had a '77 Caprice winter beater than did the same thing. I had gone 20 years without a transmission service. I changed the fluid and filter and it worked normally.
The filter was blocked by lots of debris, which reduced trans fluid pressure too low. For some reason, it lost forward gears but reverse still worked.
I would suggest try that first, it might work, and its a lot cheaper than a rebuild.
However, I do agree with Mr Pbody, the trans will likely need rebuilding.
