First of all.. a quick question wth is STD? Depending on what transmission you have is what you can swap into it.. im guessing its a V6 so you can probably swap in a 3.8

the most informative camaro site i have found is www.camarosource.ca
for engine swaps i say swap an ls1 into it from my personal opinion, thats what i plan to do....here's some sites that tell what you will need and have some info on what you need to do in order to complete this http://www.hpsalvage.com/st.htm

if its a 96 then he has a 3.8 already. now if u want u can swap a lt1 or ls1 into it. and why does your car have a std? what the hell is that?

Why would he want to swap a 3.8 for a 3.8??? If you want to swap in a V8 Lt1 or LS1 are both options. It is a spendy thing to do though and if you want it done like right now don't hold your breath it's gonna take some time. Also, if you love the handling you're gonna have to do some work to the drivetain and suspension after the swap to a V8 since the added weight in front is gonna be too much for the suspension and it's gonna handle like shit unless you do something.

oooooohhh STanDard. you coulda left it at 3.8 really cause none of the Z28s have a 3.8, and the RS is the same exact same car for all purposes of this thread.

If you swap in a LS1 you'll most definately have to change the transmission I don't think the bell housing on the tranny will fit on the LS1 or LT1. I would also change everything from the tranny back to the wheels too, Driveshaft, Differential, dunno about the axle might as well do it I guess, and get the disc brakes in back as well with more power I would want more stopping too. As for Suspension I'm not really sure I would definately look into revamping it though, just cause you have more weight up front so the springs will have more on them and won't be able to do their job as well.

STD is what u get from sleeping with to many ricer chicks. Way 2 fast off the line for any good to come of it.

Okay... First off, don't hold your breath on the LS1 swap idea unless you've got ALOT of time and money on your hands. http://dxsoftware.com/magnus/ Check out that guys site. He had a 3.8 and swapped in an LS1. And man is there alot of mods he had to do. Good luck with that swap Philly, you've gotta have some huge balls to wanna tackle that. I personally wouldn't have the patience.

My suggestion to you dd051, if you're still not a "broke mutha fuka" lol, then go for the LT1. Alot less complications, and it'll give ya alot more power than that 3.8's got. Not to mention a huge aftermarket source for mods.

Yeah LT1s have a cheaper aftermarket too since it's been around for a while.

well im cheating, lol... my swap will be going on at our shop ( and its an f body shop) and the techs are my friends and im sponsored there. so i wont be working on it alone, and i have everything ill need to do it. dyno to test and tune it on, and parts laying around if i need them. but u will need a new rear end (which i already have, k member, tranny, drive shaft, pc,wire harness, and yes alot of time and money. its not cheap, or easy but for someone like me who will have something u would never see again...a 96 rs with a damn ls1 in it, is enough for me to do it.

I hope you are in love with this car because in the end you would come out cheaper selling it and buying a z28. If you think your broke now, start gathering parts for an engine swap. Also if you do swap to a different engine,be prepared to work out some bugs. It can be done. but I'm broke too and thats how I would go about it.
