I was riding my lude down the street; threw it into secound, got a nice little screech from the tires. Then to third and the shifter wouldn't budge! Oh crap right?

So anyways I can force it in and out and around, but my mechanic says its a shifter cable. Honda wants like $350 for it and he can't find anyone that has it. I allready checked eBay, anyone know where I can get another cable @ a reasonable price?

This is weird - at the same second I finished reading this post my cell phone started ringing. It was my mechanic who's looking at my 4th gen lude because it's stuck in 5th gear - the shifter moves forward and backward (5th gear - reverse gear) only, no lateral movement from the shifter and the tranny won't come out of 5th.

My mechanic told me the shifter cable broke and the dealer wants the same amount - $350, for just the one cable that broke (there are two cables in the set). Then he called around to some junkyards and found the cable set (both cables) for $200. I ddn't ask him which junkyard but any junkyard that has Hondas should have the part.

well thats great, but my dad is pretty close to canning the car. Uhh, and a new car isn't exactly in sights.

Why? A broken shifter cable isn't a disaster. Couple of hundred bucks is a lot for a cable, but if there's nothing else wrong with the car then it's worth fixing.
