One of the first mods I did to my bike was to install frame sliders. They are pieces of plastic that bolt to the frame. They help to prevent damage when the bike goes down. I'm not too sure how they would mount on a Honda. On GSXRs all you have to do is remove the engine mount and install a longer bolt with the slider. On the newer GSXRs, you have to cut the plastic a little to get them on proplerly.
The next thing I would do is install a new exhaust can. I find that my speed increases if I can't hear the exhaust.
The next mod would be to chop the big 'ol mud flap hanging off the back.

not sure if they changed the plastic enough for frame sliders... there is a screwhole in the frame for them but on the older models (f4 and down) the plastic covered the frame slider screw and you had to cut the plastic if you wanted frame sliders...

Hey thank's for replying guy's, still riding & enjoying it very much!
I came to a halt this year do to My rates when up & I refused to pay them a new down payment.
I have no accidents no tickets & they want about $122 a month, hmm I'm 29 years old been in the satle for 2 years.
Correct me if I am wrong but aren't my rates suppose to go down once I am above 25yrs old & been in the satle more than 1-2yrs.
I was paying $35. with Allstate but they know don't cary policies for motorcycles (BUMMER).
Any help with the insurance need's would be very appreciated.
I only ride in my private neighborhood know, since I have no insurance, the rest of the time my F4i sits in the garage covered!:(
Thanks all!:)

If I were to do my mods again I would do them in this order:
frame sliders
yellow headlights
steering damper
cut off the mudflap
yosh rs3 ti exhaust
flushmount blinkers
LED tail-light kit
custom paintjob
(if you have a carb get a factory rejet kit more hp)
Ohlins inverted front shock
singled sided rear swingarm
custom wheels
polished or powdercoated frame/wheels <--depends on your taste
etc.

friend of mine at work got a CBR 600 F4i and that got me interested in motorcycles (yesterday lol).
i was just wondering how many miles could be expected out of a motorcycle?
i have an integra with 201k and its still running quite nice.

Bikes typically don't get the miles that cars do. They usually get stored for one or more of the 4 seasons, and that isn't exactly the greatest thing. Also, they are so simple so people tend not to do maintenance on them as regularly as they should. It's just that they forget b/c bikes don't have a spot on the windshield to change oil or do whatever. :p
Granted, there are exceptions to every rule. Right now a friend of mine has a 1990 Honda CBR 1000F that he bought with 900 miles on it quite a few years ago. He now has over 83,000 miles on it with regular maintenance and a few small repairs. He even does track days on the bike!!!! It's all in how it's ridden and how well it is maintained.

so if i was ot get a new bike with 0 miles on it, break it in exactly like kawasaki says, and do regular maintanence, it should last 75k + easy.
also with the ZX6RR, 13:1 cr. is 91 octane enough to prevent problems in this bike? thats supreme around here, ive sen 92 a couple times, but damn that cr seems high, i read the other .6's and saw like 12:1, 12.4:1 and already thought that was crazy compression, but then read that :eek7:

Um, the Interceptor may be the "gentleman's sport tourer" but it's still only 200ccs short of a full liter of displacement. START SMALL. I can't say it enough b/c people just don't listen to it no matter how many times it's said. IMO, the ABSOLUTE max size for a starter sport bike is 500, but since 500s are hard to find, then SOME people can handle the power of a 600.

The F4i is moer aimed for the street, whereas the 600rr is aimed at the track, so yes, the 600rr is faster.

The F4i also has a more "relaxed" riding posture. I personally believe it is a decent starter bike for the "new" rider who has SOME riding experience previously.

Regaurding the mileage question, my friends goldwing had 257,000 miles on it before he sold it.
BTW, it still ran perfectly.

I have had a 02 f4I since it came out and so for I have put on
Yosh carbon pipe
clear small turners
power comander 2
smoked wind screen
chrome dipped Wheels
Frame sliders
and a few other parts of carbon fiber
finder eliminator W/hugger(carbon fiber)
and steped my fuel ratio to 75/25 thats 75% 92 oct.& 25% 110 oct.
talk about a crisp clean throtle response. that will do it little exspensive for 110 oct. but well worth every pennie.

Maybe a goldwing no way you can achieve that with a sportbike. Not the same motor at least.
And for the VFR, not a good first bike. Im not saying because of the power but im saying that because of the weight. My brother owns one and it isnt light and wouldnt make a good first bike. Although the riding position is more upright and easier for beginners I dont really like that. A f4i is a good bike.

The guy I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread now has about... 93,000 miles on it, IIRC. I lost track when he broke 90k. He'll get it well into the 100k this next season, barring another rainy, shitty year.

If you do not neglect maintainence and simple repairs, your bike should last you many many miles.
EGcivicSi
01-17-2004, 02:30 AM
Yeah of course. I dont neglect my bike. But if your getting that kind of miles out of a sportbike then your not using your sportbike for what it was meant for. I bought my bike for a reason and I intend to use it for that reason. Id rather use my bike and have fun then keep it under 6000 rpms and dont go over 60 mph and if that means I get less miles out of it, so be it. R1 Rider, you should know where im coming from, you didnt buy an R1 to "cruise" down the street did you? If you did then you may as well just have a harley.

I just recently purchased 2002 honda cbr f4i bike red/black, 2k miles perfect condition, the owner of it was like 40 (my boss =] ) so he took a good care of it. I only drove it for 1 week and got used to it real quick, so much fun, and pretty good jump from 49cc pocket bike to 600cc lol, recently purchased a permit.
I woundered what's their 1/4 times on cbr f4i?, btw is there any difference between earlier models of cbr f4i which were carburated and the new fuel injected once?
Thanks,

well, F4 was carbeurated and then the F4i went to fuel injection, thats what the i is for. Im sure there is a bit more performance in there, since the fuel system is all computerized now the mixture is probably closer to optimum through the whole curve.

What is the best way to instal a set of frame sliders?
Also one of the first things that I did was removed the rear fender and fabed a dimond plate undertail. It dosent look as nice as the hot bodies kit but it didnt cost me $250. Then I took air craft remover and polished the outer rim of my wheels. These two mods made the bike look totaly different. I want to pollish the frame next but I am not sure how. I have axcess DA sander but I dont want to fudge my bike up and helpfull advice

One of the cheepest and bad ass looking things you can do to any bike is instead of paying 60 to 90 dollars for a smoke wind screen take your off and paint the under side of the screen black. You will want to put multipile coats on it but it looks like you bought it that way

I am going to have to disagree with that. on drag my f4i will smoke my buddies rr but as far as twisties the rr will leave me in the dust due to the longer swing arm.
And that is also switching riders so it is not the rider.

his longer swingarm should help him on the strip alot. and switching riders doesnt count, switch bikes for a week and then do it, I am not sure of the difference of the RR and the F4i as far as clutch and throttle goes, but I get off of my daytona onto my buddies gixxer and neither of us can ride the other ones bikes worth a shit for a while, you are just so used ot your own clutches engagment point its hard as hell to launch an unknown bike quickly. plus bike to bike its so close that the TINIEST jump from the line gives you the win usually unless you mess up somewhere or are racing a highly modded bike. even a gixxer 600 to 1000 of the same year its not as hard to get used to but it isnt identical feeling.

Back to F4is, I was checking my friend's 03, and noticed how wide the seats are, it really uses up a person's inseam. It's the same height as my SV, but much wider seat. I like the bike, the fit and finish is good, reach to the bars are ok, and I think the shape and design of the tank is gorgeous compared to Gixxer 600s. But I couldn't help notice this whistling or clicking noise when the bike is idling. My friend said it could be the cams or cam chain tensioners. I never heard it before on any of the other 600s. And when I turned off the bike, I heard these dripping noise, like liquid pouring from a car in parking lot. I never heard that in bikes before either. Friend said it was usual on the F4is. Wonder why that is...
Do F4is have inhenrent mechanical problems, or no one bike is ever alike? My friend said he never had any probs with his, but in the forums like these, I always see more people asking questions about malfunctions on F4i than any others.
