Tamiya TS-7.. I hate this stuff..

OK. I do not like Tamiya TS-7 Racing white... I, th fool that I am only brought one can.. Yes one can to cover my Honda F1 car I'm building. Thought this would be plenty. I primed the body white, smoothed this down, and then washed.

I applied the first coat of white TS-7, first coats were a few mist coats. I then applied a more heavy coat to start building the paint up, it's done nothing... It's like I sprayed the entire can (that is now empty) into the air..

And, get this - I've got runs all over the place.. OK, before some one says you sprayed too close, I didn't... I did nothing that I've not done for the last six models I've built.. I thought Camel Yellow by Tamiya was hard - this is just a nightmare. And the paint has gone nowhere after just three mists and one buildup coat, and I've got runs, and the paint looks like mat..!! This isn't right.. I think this can wasn't right.. The paint I think was off. It has dulled so much, I've seen mat paint with more shine.

Not impressed with this at all... I've now got to sand the parts and see if the runs do not affect the paint already down, buy more Tamiya TS-7 and lay more mists down and then try again for a glossy coat...

All this for one LITTLE body.. It's not a big car I'm painting.. In a mood now..!!

Very strange, I had no problems at all with TS-07 and my RA272. I doubt I was as experienced as you are, so maybe you just lucked out with a shitty can?

Anyway, I hope this can provide a little inspiration although it is box-stock...

Strange, I've had good luck with the TS-07 racing white also. Nice and glossy with good coverage painted on a 1964 Ford Thunderbolt.

I'm not sure what went wrong, the matt finish issue sounds like a high humidity problem. So many things can affect paint...

same thing happened to me. Its either too little or too much with that color.

I think I can sand the runs out. It's drying pretty flat now, and I'll go and get another can, to even the coverage.

Can''t understand how it used so much paint though..!! Small parts I guess. Small parts are wasteful on paint.

Still, sand out the runs and try again. It should't need a strip, it was the matt finish I was more of a mood about. Runs can be flatted and polished out, but no shine at all...!!??? Well I give up on that..

It's not an easy colour, because the paint gives very poor coverage. I must have given my in-progress Ra272 at least a hundred coats of TS-7 (so to speak :) )
No problems with dull paint though...

It's very high humidity where I am tonight. Just checked. The front nose and rear panels have just been dunked in brake fluid. I'm not even going to attmept to fix them, I thought about it, but nope.. Re-spray.

I'll get a couple of cans and try again...!! This bloody Tamiya TS paint. Everytime it's a nightmare..!!

You probably would've been better off using Model Master's new lacquer line. I've found that their rendition of Ford's classic Wimbledon White is not only much better for 60's era cars' shade of white, but lays down more evenly with less trouble.

It's a two stage paint, so just pick the clearcoat of your choice and you'll never have an issue.

Just 1.. I got a run or two on the nosecone but thankfully it isnt too noticable.

Mick, couldn't you go down to Halfords and get it colour matched there? I'm sure automotive paints give better coverage.

I've had great results w/TS-07, no problems at all. Same w/Testors Wimbledon White, one of few Testors lacquers that isn't complete shite (don't bother with the metallics unless you want metalflake like a bass boat).

Sounds interesting. I was going to try TS-7 a while ago for a Honda (looks a bit like Championship White) but i decided to paint it black. Good thing i didn't use it, or else i would've problably had a headache also:lol: Only times i have had problems with cans have been when Humidity is too high or when i haven't shaken the can enough. Or it could just be you got a little unlucky and recieved a poorly done can? Somtimes it isn't your fault. I'd just get another can and pick up from where i left off:thumbsup: Don't let this silly color/(can) ruin your on-going progress:thumbsup:

I feel your pain! I emptied several cans of Tamiya Yellow (I forget which TS#) on a single body before I gave up. Even with heating the can and very light mist coats, the edges underneath were still visible. For me, it`s been hit or miss with Tamiya sprays. Some are wonderful, some suck. Their clear seems to burn through the color coats pretty easily, even after 24 hours dry time.
I like Testor`s laquers I`ve used so far, and I agree with the comments on Wimbeldon White. The car below was painted with Testors laquer colors with no issues. The `Cuda in my signature was also sprayed with Testors Laquer.

I've never had problems with it, and have used it 3 times so far on bodies, i don't know what to say, maybe the paint was defected or the nozzle was messed up. Hopefully you solve ur prob.

Not sure about the runs, or the Tamiya paints, but I have paint haze all the time from humidity. South Texas is not the best area to paint outdoors.

Not too sure what to do now. Had a look this morning, the parts I've not dunked in brake fluid are level and even but not much shine. Doesn't feel like it's got enough paint on to tell the truth..

I think this might have been a duff can... It didn't go very far at all.. I did shake the can for 2 minutes and kept shaking as I was spraying. I applied my first mist waited 15 minutes and then applied my second mist that I normally apply to finish off covering the primer waited 15 minutes and started building the paint up.

Guess I'll have to go and buy another can - or two... :rolleyes: This is damn frustrating... This paint from Tamiya is not cheap at £4 a can. Only to chuck parts in fluid to strip it off... Grrrhhh.....!!! Still in a mood..!!

White is always tricky, but I haven't had any TS spray either. And if paint did run, it's a sign that you did something wrong, either sprayed at the body closer than what you think is appropriate or moved the spray-can too slow. 2 - 3 preparation coats won't do it, so apply 8 - 10 mist coats instead.
Keep trying, and you'll get it.

At least you didn't cock up the whole kit like Hiroboy did with his Z-Tune!
