thermal switch

the 1997 ford escort is my sister's car. Her radiator fan won't stop. I suspect it's the thermal switch. I've read that it is easy to replace. Can someone give me detailed description of what it looks like and where it is located? A picture of it in the engine compartment would be helpful. :) thanks.
