It truly makes me sick reading the survivors (not refugees) stories that have come out of the New Orleans tradegy. Buses turned away trying to get tot he survivors, Food and water taken away, make shift shanties that provide cover blown away, shots fired into the air at folks trying to cross a bridge. Unbelievable...

There were some serious screw ups but, like most things, taking things out of context makes things sound even worse then they already were. Should people have been allowed to walk out of the city? I think they should have been let off the bridge, but it does raise a question. Where were they going? Walk to the next town? Assuming they could get there - then what? Did they have a place to stay? Are rescue personel going to be able to get them what they need to survive?

Busses turned away mostly for the same reason hellicopters turned away - they were getting shot at. I can understand why someone would fear going into a place when thats going on.

The survivors of the tragedy were in a rotten situation and didn't get help as soon as everyone (especially them) wanted or liked. Its not their fault they were in that situation and the people who were there to help were doing as best they could with what they had. It sure wasn't the best, but I don't believe for a minute that anyone there was looking to cause harm (except the idiots shooting at cops, helicopters and busses).

I can only hope that other cities learn from the mistakes and successes of what happened to be ready when disaster strikes again. I also hope that the people displaced get their insurance money and can begin to rebuild their lives - preferably, not below sea level IMO.

There were numerous screw ups in New Orleans. The biggest one is the Governor. She screwed up big time. The people should be firing shots at her instead.

The people in that article he was talking about weren't right but then again, neither was that guy.

In any natural disaster there are going to be religious types who think this is the own people's doing or will take it their own way.
Personally my church wasn't putting blame on the people but taking up offerings for the voluteer groups that had been sent down there.
Of course I bet there were some churches Sunday preaching how the city was sinful and got what it asked for.

Self righteous people like that really tick me off. I don't think Jesus would want his followers to behave like this.

The handful of people that were shooting at the choppers and fireman only managed to slow down the rescue.

The looters that were shown on TV saying they were looting just to loot ruined it for the people who stole to feed their families.

Looting is still a crime and they need to go to jail if caught stealing something not needed to survive. Like I said before I would be one of the first to loot to feed my family and I would be willing to serve my jail term for it.

People are allowed to have their own opnions be it right or wrong. I have my own opnions on this and I would say most of the blame goes to the governor and mayor of New Orleans. Also there is a small precentage of people who refused to leave New Orleans area that had the means to leave. A one way bus ticket out of town costs 25 dollars. Where their is a will there is a way to get out.

They are talking about the aid pretty often, at least from what i've seen.

I saw a guy, not to play the race card but he was black, being interviewed on Fox yesterday. He started saying in ebonics mind you, how there aint no 2000 dolla's on the card only like 700 and we caint even use them anywhere we's want. 2000 dolla's can't buy you a thang. Then started saying we aint got nuttin' we all should be given $20,000. Then started going on a tyraid about slave trading and if we caint depend on the government for nuthin who can we depend? Then he said Fuck something and the guy back in the studio, who you could tell was pretty annoyed by the ignorance unappreciation and obvious lying, quickly ended the connection.

Shortly after that they talked about how 2 of the cards had been used to buy Louis Vitton purses.

It really really irritated me because his entire demenor and attitude was negative and the fact that it's in his mind that he should depend on the government was astounding. I mean I know he's from the poorest of the poor I'm sure (although he was wearing a shirt that appeared to be Gucci), but cannot anyone even the pastors in their 'hoods' get it through their heads that you can only depend on yourself?

I'm not even talking about their negative attitude towards white people but black people who have worked hard to become successful people (not rappers or the like). Hell, Bill Cosby gets it and is trying to get them to understand and yet they want to turn their back on him calling him white or any other black person that's not a democrat or shares cosby's wisdom a whittie.

you're right, man. Some of us black people don't know how to use money when we get it. We go and spend it on this and that and when it comes to getting what we need, we complain. That's only a handful, the majority of us actually have enough sense to know that we need to use this money for the decent good of survival. That and I think that TV network should be slapped in the face for making it appear that we blacks are stupid, uneducated heathens who don't the first thing about money, clothing or grooming and that all we care about is racism. But as long as they are getting the help that they need now is all that's important.
