Injecting N2O/Propane into a diesel engine?

Hi everyone!

I was wondering whether it's possible 2 use N2O or propane in a diesel engine...Propane (or LPG) benefits from tax incentives in Italy, plus I remember rading somewhere on the net about propane acting like N2O for normal engines....but I'm not positive on that....:p anyways I was wondering if any of you out there happenned to have any idea...

BTW my car has a 1.9l w/ direct injection and a turbocharger (the size of an apple but it's still a turbo...:bonghitte:)

Ciao,
Stefano

I would not experiment on an engine I value!! Diesels explode fuel under high heat & pressure, so I'm not sure I'd like propane under those conditions.

Propane enrichment for a diesel has similar effects from the user's point of view as NOS for a gasoline engine. They work in different ways, however.

The big power improvement from NOS in a gasoline engine comes from the introduction of additional oxygen, which allows more fuel to be burned. Gasoline engines, as you're probably aware, are generally limited in their power output by the amount of air (and thus oxygen) that can be squeezed into the cylinders. Diesels have a great deal of excess oxygen, even under full load, so I'm not sure that you'd see a great benefit from NOS.

Propane enrichment, on the other hand, allows a diesel engine to more fully consume the air in the cylinder. This allows the diesel to squeeze out a bit more horsepower...

There are potentially damaging side effects to both NOS and propane enrichment, so be careful if you decide to go down that route.

There is more information on the subject of propane enrichment available here:
