Ive ben haveing a problem with my lumina, ive ben thinking it was a fuel problem... while under acceleration sometimes the car starts jerking kind of like it was getting fuel, itll do it for a few second then will be fine for a while... mostly after the car warms up but not every time... well i replaced the fuel filter hopeing that would help and that was not it... so im thinking maybe the fuel pressuer regulatro ? dont think its the pump because pump either pumps or it doesnt lol.... Then i was thinking that maybe it could be the EGR, it seems that evry car ive owned in the last year (blazer, probe, LeSaber) has had a bad egr.... any way does any body have any other ideas for me... .maybe a throttle position sensor.... cam sensor, maybe a bad fuel injector... any input would help.

if you can access a fuel pressure guage and an injector tester, you can tell for sure if it is in fact a bad injector. Just a thought. Let me know if you need more info, I'm lazy tonight, and dont feel like typing unless totally necessary.

Could also be the trans. You can have a good trans shop hook up their computer to your car and tell you if something is wrong with it. IT SHOULD BE FREE, DO NOT PAY FOR THIS SERVICE!!!

As far as I know your check engine light will be on when your EGR is bad.

If your check engine light is on, go to a shop that will check that for FREE too, like Auto Zone.

Good luck :grinno:

problem sounds similar to the one I was having before it got worse. I just bumped my thread with a resolution.

I plan on picking up a fuel pressuer tester tomarrow..... My blazer and ford probe have bouth had egr problems and the check engine light never came on in either of those...And just to add one more thing.... i drove the car after letting it sit for day, and it did it allmost as soon as i went down the road, so it dont matter weather its hot or cold... and when it does jerk and the power cuts out the low fuel light comes on ( i have 3/4 tank)... i would guess a fuel pump but in my expeareance with cars a fuel pump is normally either bad or good, it works or it dont, will have to see what the pressure tests show me tomarrow i guess.

sometimes not enough voltage is getting to the pump, corroded connection, and its actually a good pump, but wont pump up enough pressure. Awhen you check your fuel pressure, you can get a spec at autozone.com to compare it to. Also make sure it holds the pressure steady, otherwise it could be a bad fuel pressure regulator. If you had an injector balence tester, along with you fual pressure guage, you can do an injector balence test.

I would suspect a sticking TCC solenoid. Does it only jerk when you go from cruising speed and then try to accelerate? if so, I'd suspect the TCC, fuel system problems will normally trip codes and turn on the check engine light.
