My girlfriend recently bought a used 97 Taurus LX from a chevrolet dealer.
She did this while i was at work......
Money is tight for her but she managed to get a pretty good buy on this car. Its in good shape with little rust, runs very well, new tires, and is a pleasure to drive.
The only problems are an engine light that remains on constantly and seems to be related to a faulty gascap which i will soon remedy for her and the airbag light.
Now the dealer was worthless on this issue of course as he was a chevy dealer and didnt want to touch it with a 10ft pole lol. I managed to track down the original owner of the car and found out after a little discussion that yes they were the original and only owner and that it had been in a small accident with no real dmg but that the airbags had deployed. I and they do not know if the airbags were replaced but the prev owner "believed so".
The airbag is currenlty flashing 4 pause 5 then repeating. I am assuming this is either a code 45, or is it error code 4 & 5? Can anyone tell me which it is, what it means, and if there is an inexpensive way to repair it?
