I just got another sentra, 93 Se-R, i am somewhat familer with sentras, my girlfriend had one for a year, we did several mods on it.
Anyway, the engine is knocking bad, I can pull out a $1500 loan from my bank. Should i just buy a SR20DET swap or should i get a DE with low milage then buy a turbo kit? Need opinions and Swap sites Please.

well, you're barely even gonna be able to afford a DET with 1500. I'd either get a used DE or rebuild yours. Rebuilding would be the cheapest and you'd be sure to end up with a nice "brand-new" engine.

Have you checked out the SR20VE? I think it's a good option, as you can turbo it just as well as you can the DE, it' makes nice hp NA, and it'll still be fun to drive while you build up your turbo kit.
Fugiot is right about the cost. You won't be able to complete a DET swap for $1500, so you'll be better off just getting a new motor in there for less and building up. You could get a VE motor in there, along with a few bolt on's and get close around 180-190hp NA anyway. It's a pretty potent motor. Check out www.sr20forum.com and visit the VE section and search in general about it.
If you don't like that option, I would just pick up a JDM low mileage SR20DE. They go for around $500 now I think, and you could save $1000 for your turbo kit down the road. Just my $0.02, but that's what I'd do if I was in your situation.

Yeah, but you have to be real careful turboing a VE. But either way, it's 190hp stock, with a bit extra from the JWT ecu that you should be using with it. A VE SE-R should be able to do a low, low 14 second 1/4, if not a 14 flat.

Yeah, you do have to be careful due to the compression ratio, but it has been pulled off successfully tons of times, and even better if you toss in some DE pistons. But yeah, you can develop some great hp just from a JWT ECU, a decent header like the hotshot or the OBX knockoff of it, a good catback, and you can get around 190-200 at the wheels, from what I've heard.
In either case, I'd shoot for a different motor that a DET with $1500. You can get a complete turbo kit setup for $1500-2000, that's what my GTi-R setup cost, if you count the fuel pump, AFC, etc. Check out www.jdmsource.com, they have some good prices.
