Saw your post in the other thread but I'll reply here as it is a new topic.

Doubt if it is the TC causing this. A damaged TC will show other symptoms like slower driving speed. Oil pump is a possibility. If you completely lose drive in forward gear(s) the mostly likely cause is a malfunction in the forward clutch or the one way clutch. The one way clutch is purely mechanical (spague clutch) and so the sprauges may not be catching and the clutch may be slipping. The forward clutch is controlled by the hydraulics and so this may also be malfunctioning.

Possible causes - low line pressure, plugged or damaged forward clutch valve body passage (lile a crack), damaged seals or piston on forward clutch, damaged one way clutch.

To troubleshoot - check line pressure. If not normal remove valve body and check pressure regulators. If OK then remove transmission, disassemble oil pump and check.

If oil pressure OK check forward clutch passage in valve body. Also check the forward clutch accumulator for damage/leak. If OK then pull tranny and remove both foward clutch and one way clutch (one way clutch is on the rear half of the planetary gearset). The MX17 uses a Simpson type gear arranegment (common sun gear).

This is what I would do. Good luck.

Auto transmission have several clutches inside. Many people are not aware of this. They think clutches only exist for manual transmissions.

TC = torque converter.

Yes, the oil pump moves the fluid around the transmission. It has many functions. One is to feed the TC so that drive can be transmitted. In addttion to the fluid going around inside the TC and transmitting the drive is also flows in and out from the oil pump. The oil going out goes to the oil cooler 'cos the oil gets very hot by being thrown around inside the TC. It also provides oil to the gears for lubrication and generates the oil for making the hydarulics work.

If you are not sure what to do you should take the car to a tranmission shop. Find one that is a member of ATRA and the BBB. Also ask around - maybe someone you know can recommend a place.
