Not a good sound?

Before I start I drive a 72 3spd 250ci nova...
Okay so I'm on my way out this driveway and I turn right to go up the hill, which is like a -20 degree turn from the exit of the drive, so you really gotta crank-it and then punch it cause it's a blind corner on the left after about 20ft which mean you gotta punch it or it could be your ass. So anyways I do this and punch it to hard too soon causing the tires the break loose, as soon as this happens my motor's pitch changes. Now it doesn't change to an open throttle sound it more like a louder awkward off balance sound. As soon as a let off the throttle and reapplied pressure to it the sound was gone and every thing felt and sounded fine. It is too dark to look at anything now but anybody have any ideas?
