Ok my friend let me check out his old 14b (actually it's a small 16G now). At least, it has to be. The housing says TD05H, and the wheel looks way different than a 14b. Looks exactly like a 16G wheel. Anyway, there is no shaft play whatsoever. My only concern - the wastegate. The flapper is fine, but on the outlet of the WG there are cracks. One of them is a good size. Anyway last night i used some Thermosteel on it. Sealed all cracks completely. Today i used a dremel to smooth it out. The Thermosteel is exhaust sealant btw, good for like 2400 degrees i think? Can't remember. Anyway i smoothed everything out. Can't even tell there were cracks there anymore. Now my problem is the flapper doesn't cover the entire hole. It covers 99.99%, then there is a very, very small section that is uncovered. It's no bigger than 1/16th of an inch. Would this affect performance at all? Is it going to leak out usable boost or what? Other than this minor problem, the rest of the turbo is in mint condition.

Thanks for any help.

Steve

Wastegates operate by that hole opening at a certain boost, if its a bit open, your probably going to be losing boost, maybe a little or close to all of it depending on how it functions now.

Turbo sounds good, keep it and get a different wastegate.
