WHy do some cold air intake kits ask if you have a stock BOV or AM BOV?

Since I have the Stock BOV, am I stuck with buying an intake that says Stock Bov? what if I plan to buy an after market Bov later? How does this all work?

Not sure where your seeing that. They do not make CAI for Turbo cars. their is no point. It's the intercoolers job to cool down the air.

Replacing the stock UICP requires knowing what bov you have so the right flange can be welded on.

I think he might be refering to the dump tube and i think the stock bov intake would include the dump tube and possible not for the am bov intake
just a guess

This question if more complicated than you think.

Stock your car uses a MAF sensor. This means that air is meterd before the turbocharger inlet, and the ECU knows the volume of air from this measuring point.

When you let off the gas, the BOV opens, and dumps air that has already been metered.
Now, in stock form, there is a tube that redirects this air from the BOV to infront of the turbo, but behind the Mass Airflow Sensor, thus the air is recirculated, not vented to apmosphere. (Valves doing this are often reffered to as DV's, Diverter Valves, or recirculated BOVs).

If this air is instead dumped to apmosphere, the ECU flows fuel for metered air that never makes it to the motor, resulting in an exteremely rich condition that causes poor performance, or the motor to stall.

When buying an intake, you need to buy one that has a fitting for a recirculation tube, or you need to change over to an air meter that allows you to vent to apmosphere. There are several options for this, including the popular MAFT setup, on blow through mode, or a full standalone AEM unit reading their proprietary MAP sensor.

However, as these options are probably far beyond the scope of your question, the answer is: Yes, you need a intake that will accept recirculated charge air from your BOV.

Hope that helps, and feel free to PM me if you have any further questions about DSMs.

Or, you can get DSMLink!

Here's what i am talking about. Both are the same short Ram intakes but one says Stock or Non Stock Bov.

No, neither of those would work. Check out http://www.dejonpowerhouse.com for an intake pipe WITH the recirculation pipe, and get the K&N fipk air filter. You won't regret it

can you explain to me, in dumby terms, why those wont work? I am a bit lost.

You need a pipe that will connect to the MAS. The MAS is the black box looking thing that connect to the stock intake pipe on the left side. You need to keep the MAS in the system or else you will have big problems, unless you get a stand alone ecu, or dsmlink.

The simple answer would be that the intake on ebay is not meant for your car. Might as well get a mustang intake or something and make it interesting :D

dSMlink does nothing for running a vented BOV. The MAFt or VPC will work however. As a side note, I would rather get fisted than run that gobshyte slapper POS VPC.
