Hi Folks. This my first post,so be gental. OK, This one is for the Laser experts.Stay with me. 1991 laser RS , 2.0 , automatic , non turbo. Im not getting any spark. Now I checked the coil pak , power transistor and even put in new plugs. NO SPARK!!! Turns over fine? Checked the ECU, and it had some leaky caps. Having some PC board knowledge, replaced them. Still no spark.(no spark before cap replacement either). Checked fuses under the hood, and under the dash. OK too. Now I know Im missing something,Thats where you guys come in. Also checked for fault codes at pins 1 and 12 at the wire harness by the fuse pannel, got no voltage. PLEASE HELP ME OUT GUYS. Is there any checks or tests that I can do on the ECM ,(MD166255). I really appreciate your help,THANKS. Also does anyone know what the tranny comp modual number is.

OK. For starts it's pin 1 and 10, then it blinks a code, then refer to a manual.... your problem could be ur crank sensor, have you checked the power feed to the crank sensor? because your obveously not getting an output signal to the coil so you have to check power to the crank sensor, if no power you trace back, but if you have power then your sensor could be bad...

well first check the connections to it first.

the book (a Haynes manual ) says the crank and the cam sensor are one unit?. Any hoo, no power at connector either?.

you need a wireing diagram, you need to trace it back and see where your not getting power/ground

First guess would be CAS. If there is no power at the connector, I would suspect a toasted ECU. Try to get another to swap in if you have a decent local DSM community. It is not uncommon at all to replace leaky caps just to find that the damage is already done... If you need someone to look at it to verify this and possibly repair it, Dave Mertz (of DSMlink fame, check for contact info on the dsmlink site) is an ECU guru, and does ECU work on the side. HeE might be able to help you. I think non-eprom ECUs are prettycheap though, might be btter to just buy one...

I had the same problem but it was with a 91 Eagle talon that i have and i did an engine swap. Putting in a japanese 4g63. No spark when cranking. Problem was with the ECU/ECM (Computer). I had added a turbo to the car and i think i burnt the unit. When i opened it up it had burnt the board and a pit on the metal cover. I tested my car with another ECU that belong to a turbo laser and it cranked and started up but was not giving the correct air fuel ratio mix. So I placed an order through ebay for an ECU for $80 plus S&H from someone parting a car. I just hope that its working fine when i recieve it.:shakehead

Holy crap, I didn't even notice the date on here. I just figured it was another newb thread... Nope, just a dead thread brought back by a newb.

I'm not sure I agree. IF people are using the search function, the more solid info in a thread about a particular topic the less likely they are to need to start a new thread for the same topic and get accused of not searching :D Obviously won't help the thread starter, but perhaps someone else in the future. Just my two pennies.

Since no one else placed a reply, there's no way of anyone knowing of how-to fix the problem if they come across it in the future. Yes I am a newb to this forum, but not to the DSM world, and if I am going to post a reply then of course I have to open an account. I will still keep posting to this thread until I find the problem or if my solution worked properly. This will help future DSMers.:sunglasse
