dissaproving mom

i've just started saving up for a bike because i know my parents aren't paying for it. this guy at my mom's work dissapears from work nearly a year ago and just came back nearly a year ago saying that he got into a bike accident, he said that his friend came over to his house and he asked if he could ride his friends bike and the friend says alright and gives him a helmet but he crashes and was in the hospital for a long time with one of those casts that they bolt on your forehead. now this guy's pretty slow so i can point out some dumb possible things that he did.
1. he borrowed somebody else's bike!
2. he probably didn't know how to ride or hadn't rode for a long time.
3. he probably didn't wear a full face helmet
4. if he wore a full face helmet maybe he didn't fasten the chin straps
5. he maybe was going 50mph in the suburbs!

because of this guy i'm maybe gonna end up with my brothers beat up nissan.

Sorry to hear about your luck man... I guess you may be waiting until you get a little older for your bike. Remember, if it is something worth having it is something worth waiting for.

Haha, well first I won my dad's approval (he's an ex-rider) and one day went ahead and dad and I bought a bike w/o notifying mom. Then took MSF. She was furious for a while, but now she just worries. Plus my age had something to do with it, I wasn't 16.

One day she points at a bike on a truck and says I should've gotten one like that instead, with fairings and all... it was a GSXR. :D

I'm in the same boat. My mom doesn't want me to get one b/c she thinks I will die (maybe I would).

I'm not too sad aobut it b/c it would be cold and wet when it rains.

My dad used to have one but he got in a crash and tore up his knee.

One hand it would be cool, but I think the cons out weight it for a 16yr old.

Everybody has some kind of horror story about motorcycle accidents. Personally, I know someone who lost his entire left leg to a bike crash.

If safety was our primary interest we would not ride bikes. (We would't get out of bed in the morning!)
They are dangerous, but most of us find a happy compromise between fun and safety. You have to learn that place. Personally, if you live under your parents roof, wait a bit to get some more driving experience before getting a bike.

what is this safety that you speak of?

I picked up my first bike for multiple reasons...

Parking = better
Cheaper on gas to get to school
Faster to get to school
cheaper = saved a tree...

Now I have 14 bikes, Dirt and Street... Once you have a bike Its very hard to give them up.

Very true... now if only we roamed the streets. I think every cagers should be forced to learn how to ride.

I then picked up a 550 Yamaha and that was a good starter bike... CBR 500's are not bad to start on. Just get something low to the ground so you dont feel top heavy.

Get something cheap.... 2 types of riders.... those that have laid a bike down and those that are going to lay a bike down....
