I purchased a 02 Cavalier for my son, he had it for about 6mos and the power windows started acting up, they will only go part way up or down, wait about 5 min and they will only move so far, I thought it was the window motors, but that is not the problem it seems like there is a circuit tripping and it resets in a few minutes, I could be wrong, any ideas what the problem may be!

That's exactly what it's like when a motor just starts to go out, although that is awful quick for an 02 to be going out. Shouldn't that thing still be under warranty? Anyways, I don't know about 3rd gens as I've not yet taken apart my current car's door panel, but the 2nd gen's window motors are an absolute pain in the ass to change.

I'd honestly consider having someone do them if they are like the 2nd gens and inside the door frame itself behind all kinds of goofy stuff.

i have my car in the shop right now for that exact problem what the problem was w/ mine witch might be wrong w/ yours is there is a part called the "regulator" in the door panel that controls how far the window goes up or down and when that gets bent or whatever it makes your motor work that much harder to actually push or pull the window in my case it burnt out my motor witch is what has happened with yours i beleive be prepared to spend 200$ + i have already dropped 180 on getting the new motor put it and im waiting for the final tally how much it will cost after the regulator is installed

Yea! My 98 Z24... I've replaced both window motors in the last year; and this week a new journey- my auto sunroof-splah! If it isn't under warranty... may I suggest Ebay there is a company that sells these motors for less then $40 with shipping and lifetime warranty!
Although... it is definitely an absolute pain in the donkey to do yourself-but not impossible. A little drilling, a little more drilling, positioning, a little cussing... (hate pop-rivits!) and you shouldn't have a problem!
These Cavi's are infamous for electrical malfunction... starts with the windows it seemsss-but it is only the beginning!

This is funny Im having the same problem, the only window that works normal is the rear driver side, I just went and got my car wash and I couldnt roll up the rear passanger side window, never could up or down any of the ones on passenger side. so i had to stick a floor mat over the hole, and then my driver side window was stuck 1/2 way down because the motar it seemed, over heated? i had to take it in teh parking lot and hit the gas and every few minutes and inch it up, it took 5 minutes to get up.

*What is this ebay company that sells these motors? So its really hard to change I wonder If I should even attempt it, has any one wrote up something saying how to replace them, I guess I need 3 motors in my 97, maybe its not worth it.

13.00 for motors, so If i bought 3 of these for my car would I regret it? every one keeps saying how hard it is.

It's not that hard. The hardest part is getting the rivits out as they are hard material to drill easily. Plan on a minimum of 45-60 minutes per door. Motors are readily available at most autopart stores for $40 or so.

I can't comment on the quality of the ones in the auction, but my gut instinct would be not to go with the auction. You have no recourse for warranty, don't know if it is actually new or rebuilt/remanufactured. Also, don't forget to factor in the $12 for shipping. Now buying 3 obviously makes it cheaper then buying them seperately. So you'd be looking at a difference between $120 retail or $63 eBay. I'd rather pay 2x and get something decent then risk it and buy junk and have to do them again. It's not hard...but it's not something that you want to do repeatedly.
