egr screen?

I have seen messages talking about the egr screen. On my 95 I have a liner egr valve. I see no way of disassembling it to clean it, and it only has hoses going into it....no place for a gasket and screen. Translation...I am having the SES light problem like everyone else and have already replaced the damn thing once. Anyone?

There is no hoses going to the EGR valve.

You sure you know where the EGR valve is?

your egr looks like this

the screen/gasket is good if you are having large chunks of carbon clogging the EGR. If there is only carbon soot and there are not large chunks of carbon, theres no need for the more expensive screen/gasket. Simply clean the valve with throtle body cleaner, install a new gasket, and you're good-to-go.

dont let the tb cleaner get into the electric side of the egr, just the metal valve.

there are only 2 bolts to remove mine ... it took about 5 minutes to remove.

I'd always try cleaning first, before replacing the whole egr unit. they're pretty expensive.

I guess not....can you point it out for me. The manual I have is horrible.

Thanks

Please use the search feature, this has been talked about a lot.

It is right under where you air intake attaches to the engine.

Also, don't use a screen gasket, you want the carbon out, not keep it in.

SES light on my 95 used to come on every week with code PO 401 which is egr insificent flow. this was when i had a blown cpi and nut kit.
the thing is my ports and valve all checked out and were not clogged. after cpi swap i have not had the light come back on once.
