Please Help!!!

Hey guys, I'm new to this. I just bought a 99 tiburon 2.0 with a 5 speed. Its a sweet looking car and its in great shape. I need some help though. I find when i shift from 1st to second and second to third i head something like a knocking only when i first shift though and then it goes away. is this spark knock?? How do i fix it or is it normal to hear this? someone please let me know. thanks alot for any help you can give me.

Well, I'm not sure what spark knock is, but knocking sounds when shifting are definitely not normal. I have a '99 Elantra 2.0 five speed (basically the same car with a different body) and I never hear anything like that. If it only happens in those two gears then it sounds like more of a transmission problem. That's all I can think it could be.

Check out the basics first. Oil level, lift up the shifter covering and make sure shits snug and in the right place, make sure clutch is going in all the way. Just stuff like that. Saves alot of needless work down the line. Lemme know what you find or dont find.
